Jackie has passed her commercial checkride!! We’re so proud of you .jackie way to stay committed to your goal and congrats on becoming a Commercial Pilot 🔥

“To say I’m thrilled about checking this off the list is an understatement! After lots of starts and stop with life happing.... I’m now a COMMERCIAL PILOT! ≥
For so many, this is the easiest rating, for me, it was a grind! My first Checkride date was almost 1.5 years ago and I didn’t even get to test due to not having all the requirements met. Myself and my CFI missed the long night cross country needing to be dual!
Then life, work and things just got too busy to focus on it! Until the last 2 weeks! And now it’s DONE!
2 years ago I had ambitions to get a CFI... now that is just going to have to wait.... It’s time to relax, watch my garden grow and enjoy life a bit more!”

FCS PRESENTER ANNOUNCEMENT!

Seanna Glatzel joins the Flight Companion Seminar as our presenter on Navigation.

“My name is Seanna, I am a CFI/CFII at Provectus Aviation. My home airport is Gillespie Field. I love the community I have become a part of at Provectus and the connections I have made with people in the aviation community. I moved from Hawai’i to San Diego a year after I graduated high school to start my training. I trained through private to CFII and received my multi-engine rating at Provectus. Persistence was the key to get to where I am today, and this is only the beginning! I am so excited to see where my career takes me and to explore the endless opportunities that aviation has to offer.” - Seanna

The FCS is a full-day interactive seminar designed to help non-pilot passengers become valuable, informed flying companions. Whether you’re a frequent flyer with a pilot friend or just curious about aviation, this event will give you the skills and confidence to actively support general aviation flights.

JUNE 2026 EVENTS - join us as we kick off a jam packed June full of fun activities!

6/8 - Chapter Business Meeting
Virtual - 6:30-8PM
Our monthly chapter business meeting to discuss important SD99 matters, plan exciting upcoming events, brainstorm fundraising ideas, and wrap up any unfinished business. All members are welcome via Google Meet (link provided via email a few days prior).

6/13 - Flying Companion Seminar
KSEE - 8am-5pm
Join us for a full-day interactive seminar designed to help non-pilot passengers become valuable, informed flying companions. Registration required, please visit event site for full details.

6/14 - Catalina Island Fly-In
KAVX Avalon Airport - 11am-3:30pm
Join us for a fly-in to the famous “Airport in the Sky”. We will eat lunch and then go on a hike. We look forward to seeing you there! RSVP on event site.

6/19 - Pilot Social
Liberty Station, San Diego - 6pm-8pm
Our “Pilot Social” events are casual social hang outs where we unwind and get to know each other better. There is no special itinerary or focus, just an opportunity to gather and meet as friends. RSVP on event website.

6/25 - Hangar Huddle
TBD - 6-8PM
Our “Hangar Huddle” events are purposely designed to combine an educational component with fun social activity. Join your fellow 99 pilots to share aviation goals, network, and learn together. This month “Skills & Systems” will be the focus. RSVP on event site.

6/28 - Installation of Officers Celebration

Our Kern Valley Fly-In was the perfect summer kickoff! 🏕️✈️🛶 6 planes and 10 SD99s (plus Friends of the 99s) all made the excursion to the stunning mountain airport of Kern Valley L05, which has an on-site campground and river access. We were blessed with blue skies, mild temperatures, and only slightly sporty winds flying in. The little mountain town of Kernville was buzzing with activity on the busy Memorial Weekend, with fly fishing, tubing and rafting, and fun campfire activities abound! Everytime we leave we always say it… “I can’t wait to come back 🤩”

✈️ Meet Your San Diego 99s - we ask our fellow members to share about themselves, their flying journey, and dreams for the future. This month we are highlighting Jen, our SD99 Vice-Chair and a Marketing Professional for Powersports.

What airport do you fly out of?
J: KRNM

What is your most memorable flight experience to date?
J: My first solo XC to KSBD is my most memorable PIC flight to date. But I also loved flying up to Monterey Airport KMRY in the right seat to watch some motorcycle racing at the famous Laguna Seca racetrack!

What is your dream plane?
J: Grumman JRF–6B Goose — really, any amphibian plane is my dream plane!

What airport is on your bucket list of places to fly to, and why?
J: Shelter Cove Airport, 0Q5, because it is so secluded and cool looking! Watch out for that marine layer though 🌫️

Annika Knott joins the Flight Companion Seminar as our presenter on Principles of Flight.

Annika Knott is an enthusiastic CFI/CFII with over 1200 flight hours. She was born and raised in San Diego, and began taking flight lessons at Montgomery Field during high school. Deciding to trade the coastline for cornfields, she double-majored in Professional Flight and Aviation Management at Purdue University. Annika loves flight instructing, and appreciates every opportunity to share her passion for aviation with others!

The FCS is a full-day interactive seminar designed to help non-pilot passengers become valuable, informed flying companions. Whether you’re a frequent flyer with a pilot friend or just curious about aviation, this event will give you the skills and confidence to actively support general aviation flights.

FCS PRESENTER ANNOUNCEMENT!

Brenda Miko joins the Flight Companion Seminar as our presenter on Managing Fears & Expectations.

Brenda Miko has been a member of the 99s for nearly 20 years, having originally joined as a “future woman pilot”. She earned her private pilot’s license flying high wing Cessnas and currently enjoys taking her family on flights in her Cessna 170 taildragger. Brenda is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy to clients primarily in East County San Diego. As both a pilot and a therapist, Brenda is keenly aware of the mental gymnastics that can easily surface when preparing to enter the skies. Brenda will be presenting at the upcoming Flying Companion Seminar to speak to the nature of why a fear of flying is not only common but can even be considered healthy (in small doses), and more importantly, is completely curable. So whether you may need to navigate your own fears and discomfort about being a passenger in the cockpit, or might eventually be the one helping another passenger to manage theirs, we encourage you to come out and learn more about how little is actually standing in the way between the fears and the fun of flying.
