Keep To***co Sacred, relatives. Then. Now. Always. 🌿

Keep To***co Sacred is the final chapter in Lincoln Mondy’s Black Lives / Black Lungs, a ten-year investigation into how the commercial to***co industry has shaped America by taking life, land, and meaning.

The film follows Indigenous elders, artists, researchers, and young people as it explores the history of traditional to***co, the impacts of commercialization and colonial violence, and the ongoing work to reclaim traditional practices and the sacred role of to***co in Indigenous communities.

You'll see AICAF Deputy Director, CoCo Villaluz in this film as she takes you through her relationship with sacred to***co and the legacy she's passing down to future generations. (We are so, so proud of her!) 👏

I means you may be more likely than the average person to develop breast cancer, and it's so important to talk to your doctor about your risk and getting screened for breast cancer. 🩷

We created the "Know Your Story" resource for our communities, who are often diagnosed with more advanced stages of cancer. Know your risk so you can feel empowered to advocate for your health and screening needs. 👏

We'll be honest, relatives, the work we do can be heavy.

We're consistently standing face-to-face with a long history of medical trauma, inequities in the resources native people receive, and often devastating statistics. But this is why this work is important, and our team is committed to our dream of a work where cancer is no longer a leading cause of death in AI/AN communities.

However....as Native people, we also have a history of strength, resilience, and finding the light and positivity in the form of our ceremonies, medicines, teachings, and relationships.

So, here is a glimpse of unfiltered, pure Indigenous joy for your Friday. ✨
