This week, water leaders from around the world are gathering in Stockholm for
World Water Week 2026 under the theme "Water for People and Progress."

The theme reminds us that water is the foundation for human development, health, and resilience—and that the path forward must center on the communities most in need.

At Cova, this vision drives our work every day. We partner with communities across Central America to ensure families have reliable access to safe drinking water. Because when people have safe water, they can focus on building healthier, stronger futures.

As we mark our latest milestone of reaching 2 million people with safe water this year, we're reminded that millions more are still waiting. That's what pushes us to keep showing up.

World Entrepreneurs Day celebrates the people who turn ideas into impact.

At Cova, we've seen what happens when entrepreneurship meets safe water. Across Central America, we've helped establish over 50 chlorine distribution centers—small businesses run by local entrepreneurs who keep their communities supplied with the chlorine tablets that make water safe to drink. Operating out of their homes or corner stores, they've built sustainable businesses that strengthen their livelihoods while making a real difference in the health of their neighbors.

When Estella started her corner store, she sold only sugar and coffee. Now, among the many items that pack the shelves of her small space, chlorine tablets are available for purchase. As a past treasure of her community's water board, partnering with Cova to expand her store as a chlorine bank that supplies multiple communities was a natural fit. Through her business, she can help communities ensure the water piped to each home is free of harmful bacteria and safe to drink.

“It is a support for the communities, because this way they can chlorinate the water, and the children don't get sick.”

It's a reminder that small businesses can do big things—especially when they're serving their communities.

Today, we celebrate the entrepreneurs who are helping to bring safe water to families across Central America.

Meet Don Francisco.

Don Francisco grows coffee on five acres of land and is the local plumber in the rural community of Suanoy. Cova’s simple in-line chlorinator ensures the community’s water is safe to drink, and Don Francisco makes sure it flows reliably to homes. Performing maintenance and routine checks along the many pipelines that connect the water source to the water tank and the water tank to local families, he routinely travels many miles.

His daily rounds take anywhere from an hour to all day, depending how many people want to chat along the way. And as a man with many smiles, skills, and kindnesses to share, that’s just the way he likes it.

Safe water changes everyday life. When families can trust the water they use for drinking, cooking, and bathing, they spend less time worrying about illness and more time building healthy futures. At Cova, we partner with communities to make safe water a reliable part of daily life across Central America.

Over the years, we have worked alongside communities across Central America, helping build the knowledge and local capacity that allows safe water systems to thrive. Along the way we’ve shared conversations, time, and stories with many of the people whose lives have been changed through safe water. And while those encounters remain among the most meaningful parts of our work, they represent only a fraction of the story.

The rest of the story lives in the community leaders who test water every morning, the volunteers who maintain chlorinators, the water boards that keep systems running, and the families who turn on their taps in trust. This milestone belongs to thousands of people who choose to lead in their own communities, and to supporters who believe in them from half a world away.

“Nobody takes safe drinking water for granted here. It’s vital to the health and prosperity of children, families, and communities across Central America. Our work is not only providing safe water, it’s providing brighter futures. But what drives our team is the knowledge that millions more are still waiting. That's what pushes us to move faster.” — DIANA CÁLIX, Co-Founder & Honduras Country Director

Each of our country programs are locally managed with teams dedicated to making sure communities have access to safe water for their families. Together, their hard work has helped Cova to reach our latest milestone of over 2 million people reached with access to safe water solutions across Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.

How do you reach 2 million people with safe water?

By showing up. Again and again.

It didn’t happen by accident. And it didn’t happen overnight. It happened because local leaders showed up for their communities, and because Cova’s Circuit Riders kept showing up alongside them.

Two million people is the result of thousands of small decisions made over many years by community leaders, partners, supporters, and our team.

Today we raise our glasses to all of the partners, supporters, and champions that helped us reach this incredible milestone. Here's to the next 2 million!
