Curious about pediatric clinical hypnosis but couldn't join us live? You didn't miss your chance.

The recording of our free Hypno-Curious webinar, featuring Dr. Adam Keating, Dr. Leora Kuttner, and Dr. Alejandra Sención, is now available FOR FREE on our website. Together, these three experts bust common myths, review the evidence supporting clinical hypnosis for anxiety, pain, and procedural distress, and share real case examples from their decades of combined practice.

Whether you're considering incorporating hypnosis into your own clinical work or simply want to understand more about mind-body approaches for children and teens, this conversation is a great place to start.

Watch the free recording anytime at https://www.nphti.org/, and feel free to share it with a colleague who might be Hypno-Curious too.

Summer often gives children and adolescents opportunities to try something new. A first sleepover, a week at camp, traveling without familiar routines, starting a summer job, spending time with extended family, or simply taking on more responsibility at home can all represent important steps toward independence. While these experiences may seem ordinary to adults, for a young person they can become meaningful evidence of a growing internal belief: I can handle more than I thought I could.
Clinicians can help children and teens recognize these moments of mastery rather than allowing them to pass unnoticed. Hypnosis-informed language and imagery can invite young people to revisit a successful experience and become curious about how they managed it. What did they notice in their body when they began to feel more comfortable? What choice did they make when something felt difficult? What strength, skill, or internal resource helped them continue? Rather than simply offering praise with "You did a great job," we can deepen self-awareness by asking, "How did you help yourself do that?" or "What did you learn about yourself that you want to remember next time?"
Imagery can further strengthen this developing sense of self-efficacy. Younger children might imagine collecting successful experiences like badges, tools, or treasures they can carry into a future challenge. Adolescents may benefit from mentally rehearsing an upcoming situation while intentionally reconnecting with the confidence, steadiness, or problem-solving ability they have already demonstrated elsewhere. The goal is not to suggest that new experiences will always feel easy, but to help youth recognize that discomfort and capability can exist at the same time.
Parents can reinforce this process at home by noticing effort, adaptation, and self-directed problem-solving. Try replacing "See, there was nothing to worry about!" with "I noticed you were nervous and still found a way to move through it." Instead of immediately stepping in to solve a problem, parents might ask, "What do you think your first step could be?" These subtle shifts in language place the child's own abilities at the center of the experience.
Summer independence is about far more than camps, sleepovers, or staying home alone for the first time. Each new experience offers children an opportunity to discover something about their own capacity to adapt, cope, and grow. When clinicians and caregivers intentionally help young people recognize and internalize these moments, we strengthen more than confidence - we help children build a lasting belief in their ability to help themselves.

By mid-summer, the excitement of the final school bell, family vacations, and long days of possibility may begin to fade. What once felt like freedom can slowly become monotony. Children and teens may seem increasingly restless, irritable, unmotivated, or overly reliant on screens for stimulation. For some families, this familiar “mid-summer slump” can leave everyone wondering: What happened to the summer we were so excited about?
For clinicians, this seasonal shift offers an opportunity to help young people explore the relationship between external stimulation and internal resources. Hypnosis-informed strategies can encourage children to become curious about boredom rather than immediately trying to eliminate it. A clinician might ask, “If your brain is waiting for something interesting to happen, what could it begin creating on its own?” Younger children may enjoy imagining an internal “idea garden,” where curiosity can be planted and allowed to grow, while adolescents might visualize turning down the volume on external noise long enough to notice what interests, goals, or creative impulses begin to emerge.
Parents can reinforce these skills at home by resisting the pressure to fill every quiet moment. Instead of immediately offering an activity, screen, or solution, try reflective language such as, “I wonder what your brain might come up with if we give it a little time,” or “You don't have to know what you want to do yet. Let's notice what sounds interesting.” Brief breathing exercises, sensory awareness, and guided imagery can also help children shift from restless discomfort into a calmer state where creativity and problem-solving may become more accessible.
The mid-summer slump does not have to be something families simply endure until school begins again. With thoughtful support, these slower weeks can become an opportunity to strengthen patience, imagination, and self-directed engagement. Helping children discover that comfort, creativity, and curiosity can come from within is another meaningful way we can help children learn to help themselves.

Every year, the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute helps clinicians from around the world gain skills that can profoundly impact the lives of children, adolescents, and families. Through our scholarship program, we are able to make this training accessible to deserving professionals who may otherwise be unable to attend due to financial barriers.
The ripple effect of these scholarships extends far beyond a single workshop. Each scholarship recipient returns to their community with new tools to help children manage pain, anxiety, medical procedures, sleep concerns, functional symptoms, and countless other challenges. One trained clinician can touch hundreds or even thousands of young lives throughout a career.
Many members of the NPHTI community can point to a moment when a workshop changed the trajectory of their professional life. Others have witnessed firsthand the impact of care provided by an NPHTI-trained clinician. These experiences are possible because of the generosity of individuals who believe in investing in the next generation of pediatric healthcare providers.
A gift of just $450 funds a half-scholarship, helping open the door to advanced training for a clinician eager to learn and serve. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, NPHTI relies on the support of donors who share our commitment to helping children help themselves.
If NPHTI has touched your life, strengthened your practice, connected you with an inspiring professional community, or helped a child you care about, we invite you to consider giving back. Together, we can ensure that life-changing pediatric hypnosis training remains accessible for years to come.
Thank you for supporting NPHTI's mission and helping us invest in the future of pediatric healthcare. Visit https://www.nphti.org/donate today.

Today, as we observe Juneteenth, we recognize the enduring power of stories to preserve history, strengthen identity, and foster resilience across generations.

Stories help us understand where we come from, who we are, and what is possible. They carry lessons, values, struggles, triumphs, and hope. For children especially, stories often become the framework through which they make sense of themselves and the world around them. Whether passed down through families, communities, or cultural traditions, stories help young people develop a sense of belonging and connection to something larger than themselves.

In pediatric clinical hypnosis, storytelling is more than a creative technique- rather, it is a powerful therapeutic tool. Through stories, metaphors, and imagery, clinicians help children explore difficult emotions, discover strengths they may not yet recognize, and imagine new possibilities for coping and growth. A well-crafted story can help a child reframe a challenge, find courage in uncertainty, or recognize resilience they did not know they possessed. In many ways, storytelling allows children to become active participants in shaping their own narratives rather than feeling defined by their circumstances.

Juneteenth reminds us that the stories we preserve, share, and honor matter. They help us remember the past while guiding future generations forward. As clinicians, caregivers, educators, and families, we have the opportunity to help children develop empowering stories about themselves; stories that emphasize strength, hope, perseverance, and the capacity for healing.

Today, we celebrate the importance of history, community, and the stories that continue to inspire resilience across generations.

Reading about clinical hypnosis is one thing. Learning to use it confidently with patients is something entirely different.
That philosophy has guided the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute's Annual Workshops for fifteen years. From October 15-17, 2026, pediatric healthcare professionals from around the world will gather at the Q Center in St. Charles, Illinois for an intensive three-day training experience focused on developing practical, immediately applicable clinical skills.
What makes NPHTI different is its commitment to experiential learning. Participants don't simply attend presentations- they practice. Through demonstrations, supervised exercises, faculty mentorship, case discussions, and small-group learning with an exceptional faculty-to-participant ratio, clinicians actively develop the skills needed to integrate hypnosis and therapeutic communication into everyday patient care.
This year offers three distinct educational pathways: the Fundamentals Workshop for clinicians building core pediatric hypnosis skills, the Utilization & Expanded Clinical Applications Workshop for those ready to refine and expand their approach, and the NEW Case-Based Advanced Masterclasses, designed for experienced clinicians seeking deeper exploration of complex clinical cases involving anxiety, pain, neurodiversity, disorders of gut-brain interaction, storytelling, and habit disorders.
No matter where you are in your professional journey, the goal remains the same: helping clinicians leave with greater confidence, stronger clinical tools, and new ideas they can bring directly into their work with children, adolescents, and families.
