Our season is coming to a close!! With our birds flighted and soon heading south for the fall & winter months, Ag Allies would like to thank everyone who helped make this season our best yet; from our farm and landowner partners to organizations like the S**o Watershed Collaborative to our volunteers and to all of you!! NONE of our work would be possible without your support and we are incredibly grateful for it!!

Bring your friends, family, and a picnic to the River Bend Farm in S**o for an evening of flower picking, community, and good vibes! We'll supply scissors, clippers, repurposed jars, and a seasonal N/A beverage. Make bouquets, flower crowns, & other creations to savor the season. You'll leave with blooms for your home (or someone you love)! This is a Family-friendly event to celebrate summer wrapping up!! Ag Allies is SO so happy to have had the opportunity to share our knowledge of grassland birds with you all at The Ecology School at River Bend Farm!!

While it is too late in the season for us to have seen nesting or flighted bobolinks, this was an amazing opportunity to showcase prime grassland habitat. It is amazing people like those at The Ecology School and The S**o Watershed Collaborative who help to not only conserve grasslands to keep these beautiful creatures coming back, but also observe sustainable practices, and educate others!!

Thank you again to The Ecology School at River Bend Farm for all of their hard work and for hosting us this season, and to the S**o Watershed Collaborative for working with us on this project!! An additional thank you to everyone who came to learn about these birds, how to protect them, and nature based solutions in the S**o Watershed.

Ag Allies will be leading a Bird Talk starting at 10:30am, with The S**o Watershed Collaborative providing information on Nature Based Solutions and Conservation within the Watershed, and The Ecology School hosting and open for tours & questions.

Our little ones are starting to fly!!! We are nearing the end of the season and have begun clearing fields for mowing, so stay tuned for more updates!!

This past April, Ag Allies, with local support from NRCS and Carrick Gambell, conducted a soil sampling at the Ecology School at River Bend Farm. This allows Ag Allies to gather vital data to determine the health of the Ecology School’s land and how to best move forward with developing an effective management plan. Stay tuned for more updates on this project or join us on July 26th at the Ecology School to learn more!!

We are getting close to field clearing time! Chicks are hatched and adult bobolinks are busily feeding their broods. Ag Allies staff are watching program fields around the state and are starting to see adult Bobolinks grouping up for 'team guarding'. This means young birds have left the nest and are moving short distances in the grass - BUT they are not yet flying! They may be capable of short hops or flutters but not sustained flight, which means they cannot escape haying equipment. We will continue to monitor fields daily so that we can give the green light for haying as soon as fledglings are fully flighted.

We are continually monitoring populations and have begun our checks to clear fields. We know many of you are anxious to cut, and we thank you for your continued patience in these final days. You have made a weeks-long investment in the success of these imperiled birds, and we thank you. Ag Allies staff and our partners will be visiting fields to clear them for safe haying as quickly as we are able.
