Members of the Local 5215 send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of one of the finest providers and overall human beings in this business, John Kooistra.

Personally, I have known John for the better part of nearly 30 years. The news of his passing has gutted me. I have so many memories as I was entering this business and have tried to take his words of wisdom (that at the time he didn't know that he was providing) and have used that to shape the type of provider that I continually strive to be. So many of us have encountered John over the years at different times and in different ways and every single person has been made better by knowing him.

Rest easy my friend. And rest assured that though we are sad now, we will soon follow your lead and look back at YOUR life and simply try to smile more and love life as best we can.

PS...Try not to let Stevie Mac and Special Ed get you in to too much trouble up there ❤️

Last week, Buxton Fire-Rescue responded to a serious motor vehicle crash where the occupant was ejected from the vehicle and became trapped underneath it.

Crews worked quickly to stabilize the scene using rescue struts, cribbing, and other specialized equipment to safely free the individual. Thanks to the teamwork and efficiency of everyone on scene, the patient was extricated in just eight minutes and transported to the hospital for further care.

*This incident serves as a strong reminder of how important it is to always wear your seatbelt.

Tonight we held our regular training at our training building located at the Bar Mills Station. The topic was ventilation and the class was taught by Local 5215 member Jacob Pixley. This is a vital skill necessary to fight structural fires. Trainings like tonight are extremely important for all members, both Career and Call Company, to remain proficient and able to protect our community to the best of our abilities!

Today marks 24 years since the tragic events of September 11th. We honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 lives that were lost, and countless others forever changed. We honor the firefighters, police officers, and all first responders who ran toward danger and never came home. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

As a community, and as a nation, we pause to reflect, remember, and recommit ourselves to the ideals of service, unity, and resilience that defined the days following that dark morning.

We will never forget.

Today, the Duty crew went to several locations within Town to practice "making sets" with Ladder 414. It is very important to practice these skills regularly so operating this vital piece of apparatus becomes almost second nature when emergencies occur
