For generations, rites of passage and wilderness experiences have helped people navigate times of transition and growth. They create space to step away from the familiar, listen more deeply, and discover what is being asked of us in the next chapter of our lives.

This summer, the Men's Journey and Father & Son Journey continue in that tradition, coming together in the mountains of West Virginia for a week of wilderness, community, deep reflection, and challenge.

Whether you're seeking greater clarity, standing at a crossroads, strengthening a relationship with your son, or simply feeling called to reconnect with what matters most, the Journey offers an opportunity to step away from daily life and engage more fully with yourself, others, and the natural world.

Join us this summer and explore what it means to live with greater purpose, connection, and vitality.

By making room for native species to return, we're helping restore ecological relationships that have shaped this landscape at Lifebridge for generations.

This spring, we removed invasive barberry and planted native species throughout several landscaping projects taking shape around Lifebridge Sanctuary. These additions are bringing beauty to the grounds, but their significance reaches beyond what's immediately visible! Native plants provide food and shelter for birds, pollinators, and countless other living beings, participating in the intricate web of relationships that helps our place remain healthy and alive.

The work has been practical, but it is also an expression of care-for the land, for the wildlife that depends on it, and for the guests who will walk these trails, sit in these gardens, and spend time in conversation with this place in the years to come.

We're coming to understand stewardship of Lifebridge not as a single project, but as an ongoing practice of attention. We're so grateful for the opportunity to participate in that practice collectilvely, season by season!

Every Journey Begins with an Arrival

The first thing many people experience as they arrive at Lifebridge Sanctuary isn't a building... as you pull into the driveway, it's the land itself that meets you.

Earlier this spring, we renewed the natural spring at the entrance to the Main Building, making visible once again the emerging spring and small stream that move through this landscape. Now, as you arrive, you can hear the water flowing over stone on its way to the pond below.

We've come to think of it as a threshold... an invitation to slow down, arrive fully, and notice where you are.

The Hero's Journey® begins with a call to adventure. We've woven that call into the experience of arrival at Lifebridge- in the sound of moving water, the beauty of a place, and the simple act of crossing from one way of being into another.

This project was made possible through gifts designated specifically for enhancing the beauty and experience of Lifebridge Sanctuary. We are grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.

We've Been Busy This Spring...

One of the joys of winter is dreaming.

One of the joys of spring is getting to build what you've been dreaming about!

Over the past few spring-weather months, we've been working on a handful of projects around Lifebridge Sanctuary that we're excited to finally share...

The spring at the entrance is flowing, and visible once again.

The gazebo has been renewed, and a new bluestone floor is ready to welcome gatherings there.

Native plants are taking root where invasive species once dominated!

These projects were made possible by people who care deeply about this place and contributed specifically to help enhance its beauty and the experience gathering together at Lifebridge.

The world can't be changed through policies, technologies, or institutions alone...true changes crystalizes from people gathering...and from when stories are shared and through hearts willing to remain open in uncertain times.

We're living into the idea that our lives are bound together in ways both visible and invisible, through the lifelong practice of becoming more fully human - with one another.

Every single act of courage, compassion, and genuine connection contributes to the larger field we all inhabit.

As Rev. angel Kyodo williams reminds us:

"Without inner change there can be no outer change, without collective change, no change matters.""

The work of our time asks both from us - the transformation of self and the transformation of community.

"It’s good to live into a question.
Then we can let a question come alive for us, so we come alive through living into it. An answer brings an end to the wondering, to the 'quest' of it. An immediate answer closes fast the door to an exploration process."
Michael Mervosh

Beside the Lifebridge Sanctuary labyrinth, it becomes easier to remember that life is not a straight line.

We circle. We return. We discover that what appeared to be a detour was part of the way all along.

The deepest questions aren't obstacles between us and an answer... They are invitations into relationship - with ourselves, with one another, and with the larger mystery in which we live.

A good question can accompany us for years. If we let it!

“We live in a time of challenge, which is also a time of opportunity. We live in a time when it is easy to despair, but which is also a time of great hope. We live in a time when it is necessary to know for what we stand, and to take that stand with courage.”

Courage isn't always found in grand gestures.

Sometimes courage looks like showing up. Listening deeply. Singing the song that wants to be sung. Standing beside another human being and lending your voice to something larger than yourself.

In a world that often invites us toward isolation, courage may be the simple act of relationship - with one another, with the living world, and with the future that is asking to be born through us.

Every gathering, every conversation, every shared note carries the possibility of remembering who we are, and what we are living into.

A Hero's Journey ® doesn't banish uncertainty. The true adventure is to meet it with an open heart and a steady voice. (photo of Michael Mervosh and Korel Tunador from the Spring Immersion)

Joanna Macy speaks of Active Hope as the practice of waking up to the beauty of life and recognizing that we belong to it - that our lives are part of the web of life itself.

At Lifebridge Sanctuary, this waking up and remembering often happens in simple ways: walking forest trails, sitting by the pond, gathering with others who are listening for what their lives are asking of them.

The invitation is not to have all the answers, but to simply show up to notice where life is stirring and to respond with intention.

“Active Hope is waking up to the beauty of life
on whose behalf we can act.
We belong to this world.
The web of life is calling us forth at this time.
We’ve come a long way and are here to play our part.”

- Joanna Macy

The Spring Musical Immersion at Lifebridge Sanctuary is a journey into vocal embodiment and expression- guided by musicians and facilitators who know how to create a space where people can explore, experiment, and surprise themselves.

You don’t need to be a singer!
You only need to arrive with curiosity to explore your own aliveness.

Together we'll play with rhythm, harmony, improvisation, and the raw vitality of the human voice-supported by the quiet beauty of the Lifebridge land, and our capacity for depth with one another.

Music has always been one of the oldest pathways to aliveness.
This gathering is an invitation to step into that current.

At Lifebridge Sanctuary, there are many places to pause and reflect across 97 acres of forest and open space. The trails stay active, the pond keeps its own rhythm under the ice, and the light moves differently this time of year.

This new bench by the pond is one more place to sit and spend a little time with the season.
