David Poecking is a very active supporter of Christian Associates and will be speaking for Bishop Eckman as we celebrate Bishop Emeriti Zubik and Kusserow at this weekend's John 17 Awards!

📬 Pittsburgh Catholic magazine welcomes submissions for our “Good Shepherds” feature. Please email ➡️[email protected]⬅️ to share your favorite story about one of our priests!

Our most recently featured Good Shepherd is Father Dave Poecking: "Michael and Kiersten reconnected with Father Dave while preparing for marriage. Because of delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, their wedding was postponed until 2021, when Father Dave celebrated the couple’s marriage. Michael especially remembered Father Dave’s encouragement during marriage preparation: husband and wife should serve one another as they would serve Christ. Michael had no idea how deeply those words would shape the years ahead."

What a beautiful day for an open house at Washington Presbytery’s new Presbytery Center, the beautifully renovated former parsonage of Laboratory Presbyterian Church in Washington. The new center has a high-tech-equipped meeting room, offices, a full kitchen, and a wide front porch for fellowship.

August 15: Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Roman Catholic)/Mary, Mother of Our Lord

11 "Hear, O daughter; consider and | listen closely;*
forget your people and your | father's house.
12 The king will have pleasure | in your beauty;*
he is your master; therefore | do him honor.
13 The people of Tyre are here | with a gift;*
the rich among the people | seek your favor."
14 All glorious is the princess | as she enters;*
her gown is | cloth-of-gold.
15 In embroidered apparel she is brought | to the king;*
after her the bridesmaids follow | in procession.
16 With joy and gladness | they are brought,*
and enter into the palace | of the king.

(From Psalm 45)

For a full year, through sunshine, snow, and rain, people of faith have gathered every Friday morning at the ICE headquarters on Pittsburgh’s South Side to pray for our immigrant neighbors. Thanks to Pax Christi Pittsburgh, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, and Casa San José for organizing our community and keeping this ecumenical, interfaith witness strong.

We join with his family, with the faithful of Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Carnegie, and with the entire Orthodox community of Greater Pittsburgh in mourning the death of The Rev. Fr. John Charest, looking forward in faith and hope to the resurrection of the dead in Jesus Christ our Lord. We pray for his wife Matushka Laryssa Charest and their three children.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Fr. Charest was the President of the Orthodox Clergy Brotherhood of Greater Pittsburgh.
