In March 2025, Latvia was elected to the UN Security Council for the first time in its history. Its successful campaign emphasized three core priorities: (1) protecting the rules-based international order, (2) advancing the women, peace, and security agenda, and (3) addressing emerging threats, including climate security and the governance of artificial intelligence.

Latvia’s term comes at a time of significant geopolitical tension, including the continued Russian invasion of Ukraine, rising instability in the Middle East, and a shifting global order.

JBANC is a member of the American Coalition for Ukraine, a united group of organizations dedicated to building grass roots advocacy in support of U.S.-Ukrainian security.

JBANC Managing Director Lee Allen spoke in a membership spotlight event, highlighting the unity between the Baltic and Ukrainian diaspora in its effort to curb Russian aggression.

Russia’s Shadow Fleet operates in direct violation of maritime law, sailing under false flags, disabling tracking systems, and transporting sanctioned oil.

In the Baltic Sea, these vessels have damaged gas pipelines and critical data cables.

In response, NATO launched Operation Baltic Sentry to increase military presence and strengthen monitoring of maritime activity in the region.

Urge your Senator to co-sponsor S.2904 Shadow Fleet Sanctions Act and hold these vessels and their operators accountable.
