AMURT has been involved with the hunger problem amongst the poor and the homeless in Los Angeles for the last 25 years. Our breakfast feeding through Mama D’s Kitchen is legendary amongst the folks of Skid Row. It makes a huge difference in their lives. The program is maintained entirely by volunteers and public donations.

We're facing a critical moment in our mission in Morocco to support small isolated mountain communities devastated by the earthquake. While we've made significant strides, there are so many needs, and our resources are running low.

Your past contributions set up 30 sturdy tents in Morocco's Atlas mountains. Families like Yussef’s, who were initially crammed into makeshift shelters with many other families, are now finding better refuge in these stronger tents, thanks to you.

But the demand far outweighs our current supply. We want to move into delivering not only tents, but desperately needed Mental Health Support to children in the hospital and hopefully in communities. Take Ismail, for example, a resilient sixty-year-old who lost his brother, sister-in-law, and their four children. His niece survived but had to undergo an amputation after being trapped under rubble for days. The trauma runs deep, and the healing process is fragile.

However, without your immediate help, we may have to withdraw our team in the next weeks, leaving these families in a vulnerable state.
Please, if you can, make a donation today and share this urgent plea with your friends and family. Together, we can ensure that hope endures, and these families receive the support they need. πŸ™β€οΈ

🀝 Unity in Diversity: Supporting Berber Communities 🌍

In these challenging times, Berber communities face unique struggles. They predominantly speak Amazigh, with limited knowledge of Arabic or French, and were already marginalized.

Yet, they're coming together to support one another, cooking, eating, and sharing stories. Aziza, our translator, shared how her douar gathers each night to tell traditional tales.

Ibourk, who also received a tent, had a city job but chose to stay, saying, "My people need me more."

Your contributions matter. Support and share our campaign to make a significant impact in their lives. πŸ™β€οΈ

🌟 Addressing Unseen Wounds: Mental Health Matters 🌟

As shock subsides, mental health needs emerge among the affected. During tent distribution, we met Ismail, a resilient sixty-year-old man who lost his brother, sister-in-law, and their four children. His niece survived but had to have her arm amputated after being trapped under rubble for days.

It's surprising how openly Ismail spoke about it, and Aziza, a local nurse, shared her own numbness and denial. Many we've talked to are in need of mental health support.

Your support is crucial. Let's not only provide physical relief but also emotional healing. Donate to make a difference. πŸ’šπŸ§

πŸ•οΈ First Tents Delivered, Urgent Need for More! πŸ•οΈ

Thanks to your incredible support, 30 tents were set up in Morocco, providing shelter to vulnerable families like Yussef’s in Atlas mountains communities called "douars." Your generosity has brought them out of overcrowded makeshift tents and into sturdy, dignified shelters.

But the need persists.

Meet Ismail, a sixty-year-old man who lost his brother, sister-in-law, and their 4 children. His niece survived but had to have her arm amputated after being trapped under rubble for days.

Your support can make a world of difference. Please donate for more tents and help us bring comfort and hope to these communities. πŸ™πŸ

Excellent news! Your initial support has enabled AMURT to procure good quality, sturdy tents from local manufacturers in Marakesh. These tents are designed to resist the heavy winds and cold of the winter. Families like Yussef's are desperately in need of tents. In his tiny community, all of the 18 homes were destroyed, and about 70 people are squeezing into just 4 tents as well as a couple of shelters made with tarps and sticks and a few summer tents. It is not a sustainable, dignified or safe situation. They urgently need more tents - please donate and share this campaign to reach more people: https://amurtuk1.enthuse.com/cf/morocco-earthquake.
