Dr. Rodney Glasgow, President of The Glasgow Group and Head of School at Sandy Spring Friends School will facilitate an interactive workshop and conversation around how identity, intersectionality, and implicit bias show up in our lived experiences. Participants will share personal narratives and perspectives for the enrichment of the collective. Join us for the kind of deep learning that can only come from authentic engagement. Our central query will be, "What are the moments in our lives that shaped how we think and move through the world?"

Tonight. In light of the continued violence and senseless killings in our country, we invite you to join us for a community conversation about the steps we can take to root out hate where it lies latent, and how the work of two of our history's greatest allies during the civil rights era, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, can serve as a blueprint to unite communities experiencing hate and discrimination in an effort to dismantle the danger of white supremacist thinking.

This is a free event hosted by Collaboration Council in partnership with Main Street Connect. Please register and INDICATE IN THE QUESTION BOX WHETHER YOU ARE ATTENDING IN PERSON OR VIA ZOOM! Main Street Connect location: 50 Monroe Place Rockville, Maryland 20850

Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service (MLK Day) is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Participation in service activities has grown each year as more Americans are encouraged to provide meaningful change in their communities. Whether service meets a tangible need, such as fixing up a school or senior center, builds a sense of community or mutual responsibility. In a pandemic environment, service can take on the form of sending a meal through a meal delivery service, serving as a virtual mentor, or donating money to a charitable cause to help those who lack basic essential items.

This year the Volunteer Center is excited to continue the tradition of honoring Dr. King through service. 2023 marks the first in-person event since 2020. A virtual option for service will still be available for those who are not able to join the in-person event. To learn more about opportunities to join an MLK Day of Service event, click here!
