Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology - FASEB The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), the largest U.S. biomedical coalition, represents 20 societies and 100,000 researchers

As the nation’s largest coalition of biomedical research associations, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) is recognized as the policy voice of U.S. biological and biomedical researchers. In addition to advocating the critical work of our society members on Capitol Hill, FASEB engages in numerous efforts to support continuous innovation and discovery in the life s

ciences. This includes producing The FASEB Journal, a monthly peer-reviewed transdisciplinary research publication, hosting annual Scientific Research Conferences to convene the bioscience community, leading diversity initiatives that advance opportunities for minority researchers, and providing association management services to increase the capacity and reach of scientific nonprofits.

🔬 What happens when a piece of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein reaches brain cells?

A FASEB BioAdvances study exploring that question is getting renewed attention on social media—and it’s easy to see why.

Using a laboratory cell model, researchers found that the S1 portion of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein could enter neuron-like cells and set off a chain of molecular events that ultimately led to cell death. They also identified a specific pathway that could help scientists better understand how this process happens.

It’s a fascinating finding that adds another piece to the ongoing effort to understand the neurological effects associated with COVID-19.

Together, the scientific community made its voice heard.

More than 16,000 scientists and organizations used FASEB's resources to help submit comments on the proposed OMB revisions, contributing to 50,000+ public comments.

Now we're asking you to take one more important step.

Congress has an essential oversight role, and lawmakers need to understand how these proposed changes could impact scientific research, funding, institutions, and innovation.

Our updated advocacy tool makes it simple:
📝 Answer a few questions
✍️ Receive a personalized message
📬 Send it directly to your members of Congress through the FASEB Legislative Action Center

It takes about 5 minutes, and you do not need to have submitted a comment to OMB to participate.

Wondering why so many in the scientific community are concerned about the OMB proposed rule?

This proposed rule is far more than an administrative update—it represents a major rewrite of the federal guidance governing grants and cooperative agreements.

If implemented, it could significantly impact the scientific research ecosystem, affecting areas such as:
🔬 Research funding and grant administration
📚 Publication and dissemination of research findings
🤝 Scientific collaboration, including international partnerships
🧪 Conferences, peer review, and knowledge exchange

These changes could affect not only researchers, but also the scholarly societies and scientific organizations that help advance discovery, validate findings, and support the research workforce.

That’s why FASEB created a free tool to help scientists and scholarly societies submit meaningful comments in just 3 simple steps:
1️⃣ Take a short quiz
2️⃣ Customize your draft letter
3️⃣ Submit your comment to OMB

Public comments close July 13, 2026.

Every substantive comment must be reviewed by OMB, which means your voice can make a real difference.
