🛟 Water Safety Doesn’t Take a Vacation!

Changes in routines and unfamiliar places can bring new water safety risks.
That’s why the Autism Society of America and National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA) created Away From Home, a practical resource helping families and caregivers of Autistic loved ones prepare ahead, identify potential risks, and make water safety part of the plan wherever they go. Prepare before you go. Stay safer while you’re away.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we’re reflecting on a question many parents ask: What happens after the school bus stops coming?

Finding meaningful work and community involvement after high school is a journey that starts long before graduation day. As parents and family members prepare for life after school, practical questions can make all the difference.

•What does a meaningful week look like? (Balancing work, hobbies, and connection)
•What strengths do other people notice? (Matching abilities to real roles)
•Which skills can we practice in real-world settings?
•What do we build when the "perfect" option doesn't exist?

Every Autistic individual's employment and adulthood path looks different, and there is no one-size-fits-all roadmap. This resource offers a great starting point for families building a supportive foundation for the future.
