The Worthington–JAX Postbac Researchers program — offered in partnership with The Jackson Laboratory — is a two-year, paid research training experience in Bar Harbor, Maine.
The program includes:

For Sophie, receiving the Worthington Scholarship was life-changing. It allowed her to enroll at Thomas College and pursue her longtime dream of becoming a high school English teacher through the Secondary Education – English program.

The Worthington Scholarship is designed to expand access to higher education for students with strong academic potential and demonstrated financial need. For Sophie, that support has meant the ability to work part-time while staying fully engaged in her coursework, campus leadership, and professional growth — rather than balancing the demands of a full-time job alongside her studies.

An Oxford, Maine native, Sophie is especially proud of earning President’s List honors for three consecutive semesters and contributing to campus life as a peer tutor and member of the Thomas College Mental Health Team. She also shares gratitude for education professor Heather Batchelor, whose mentorship and passion for teaching have made a lasting impact on her academic and personal journey.

After graduation, Sophie plans to remain in Maine and inspire the next generation as a high school English teacher.

The Worthington Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic promise and financial need, helping make a Thomas education more accessible and affordable. For Arianna, it has provided breathing room when it comes to student loans and eased the financial pressure on her and her mom, who works hard to support her goals.

Because of this support, Arianna has been able to invest fully in her academics, compete as a student-athlete, and engage in campus life at Thomas College without constantly worrying about finances.
