We're pleased to announce that Sportable has been awarded a grant through the Capital Trail Outdoor Equity Fund that will fund adaptive electronic shifters for a number of our recumbent cycles! These e-shifters ease the process of shifting gears for cyclists with limited range of motion, expanding the access of our Cycling programs.

We want to thank the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation for their support! We can't wait to see our cyclists out on the Trail!

This October, Sportable had TWO athletes travel all the way to San Francisco to complete the famous Alcatraz open water swim! Sportable Athlete Shawn Benedix took part in the Alcatraz Swim for Sight fundraiser, which supports research, treatments, and cures for blindness. Meredith Tyree completed the swim as part of the Usher Syndrome Society to raise funds and awareness for Usher Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes both hearing loss and vision loss.

The roughly 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the north shore of San Francisco was not only a substantial challenge physically, but also a huge symbolic achievement for these two and many more athletes who live, compete, and swim with visual impairments. Accomplishments like this really encapsulate the importance and power of inclusivity in sports!

A huge congratulations to Shawn, Meredith, and all other swimmers who completed these swims!

Yesterday, Sportable athlete and Spokes Youth Wheelchair Basketball standout Luca signed with VCU Men's Basketball as part of Team IMPACT! We couldn't be prouder of Luca for how hard he has worked thus far and his relentless commitment to improving.

VCU Athletics got a real winner - not only are we super excited to see Luca learn and grow through this experience, but we can't wait to see the kind of things that the Rams will learn from an outstanding competitor like Luca 💪

THANK YOU for an incredible Tailgate Celebration! 🧡 Our family of athletes, volunteers, and community members showed out at the Torque Club and made this evening so special, demonstrating the visible impact that comes with inclusive and accessible sports & recreation. To mark the end of Tailgate Season as a whole, we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised $64,000 in support for our adaptive programming! This was all possible thanks to YOU.

This Tailgate Celebration was proudly powered by Dominion Energy - we are so grateful for their continued support of our mission! Huge thank you’s to the sponsors that made Heads or Tails, the racing simulators, the raffle, and the entire night possible!
