That’s a wrap on the 2026 Ashland Half Marathon and 5k! Thank you everyone who showed up and made this one of the best Ashland Half’s yet!

It’s always great seeing our coaches out there living the mission! And special shout out to our very own Director of Youth Programs, Jacki Quinlan- always leading my example!

Our Director of Youth Programs, Jacki Quinlan, and the Executive Director of Jacob's Chance will be hitting your airwaves soon with a segment on Channel 8’s Showcase Richmond! They are sharing the good news that our pilot partnership program, The Mile Makers, is continuing this fall!

This week we got to bring a little Kids On The Move energy to Richmond Public Schools (Richmond Public Schools)PE Teachers during their inservice at Martin Luther King Middle !💪🏃‍♀️ We had the opportunity to connect with RPS elementary PE teachers, get a little goofy, and put a few of our favorite activities to the test! From games that can be used in the classroom to activities perfect for a Kids On The Move run/fitness club, these teachers jumped right in and showed us how much fun movement can be. 💃

We also shared more about Kids On The Move and how we can support schools in creating accessible, fun opportunities for kids to get active. A HUGE thank you to RPS and all of the PE teachers who were willing to play along, get silly, and maybe work up a little sweat with us💙🤍! We’re so grateful for those who are committed to helping kids move, play, and build healthy habits.

The 30th Anniversary City Point Races are coming up, and this is a pretty great way to get moving, have some fun, and celebrate 30 years of community!💙💛 Whether you’re ready to race, walk, or cheer someone on, there’s something for everyone: 10K, 5K, and Mobility 1/4 Miler! And for the kiddos: Kinder Dash (50 yards) & Kids Fun Run (1 mile)!

60 fundraisers. 215 donations. More than $17,600 raised for Sports Backers’ Youth Programs💙

Our charity runners are showing just how powerful a community can be when we all move toward the same goal: helping more young people across the Richmond region have access to active, healthy opportunities. 🏃‍♀️🏃

And we’re not done yet! There are still opportunities to join the movement through our charity entries for the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon and Capital One Richmond 8K.

🏅 Raise $750 for Sports Backers Youth Programs and receive a complimentary entry to the sold-out Richmond Half Marathon on November 14.

We’re incredibly grateful for Shood’s continued partnership with Kids On The Move and their commitment to helping our youth stay active, healthy, and confident!

Thanks to Shood’s in-kind donations, we provided 168 pairs of running shoes to our Kids On The Move run and fitness club participants! 👏🏽 Whether they’re running, playing, walking, or staying active with their friends, these shoes help ensure that our kids have proper footwear to participate safely and comfortably. Shood’s mission to provide quality footwear to those who need it most is making a real difference in our community, and we’re so thankful to have them alongside us in our work to remove barriers to youth physical activity. 💙

As we say goodbye to July we want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the ScienceMuseumOfVirginia and the Richmond Kickers for generously providing the July prizes for our Kids On The Move Summer Challenge! 💙🎉

Thanks to the Science Museum of Virginia, every participant who completed the July Summer Challenge received youth general admission tickets to explore, discover, and be inspired. The Richmond Kickers provided 2026 FIFA World Cup Sticker Albums, helping get kids excited about the world’s biggest soccer tournament! ⚽📚

These generous partnerships helped us celebrate the dedication and hard work of every child who completed the challenge while encouraging them to stay active all summer long.

I joined the club because… “It’s fun and I get healthier and stronger.” 💙 — Student, Lucille Brown Middle School

Middle school is a time when so many young people begin stepping away from physical activity. That’s why creating spaces where movement feels fun, supportive, and empowering is more important than ever.

Through our partnership with NextUp , we’re able to bring Kids On The Move directly to various middle schools, such as Lucille Brown Middle, as part of Richmond’s afterschool programming. Together, we’re helping students build healthy habits, gain confidence, form friendships, and discover that being active can be something they genuinely enjoy.

NextUp connects Richmond youth with high-quality, no-cost afterschool opportunities that help them learn, grow, and thrive beyond the school day. Because when a student says they joined because it’s fun and leaves feeling healthier and stronger, we know we’re doing something right. 💙
