🚨🔥 BURN BAN REMINDER 🔥🚨

Even though we’ve recently received some much-needed rain, the burn ban is STILL IN EFFECT.

Rainfall does not automatically eliminate the risk of wildfires. Dry vegetation, changing weather conditions, wind, and remaining dry areas can still create dangerous fire conditions.

🚫 Please do not conduct any outdoor burning while the burn ban remains in effect.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help protect our community, property, and firefighters. ❤️🚒

Please stay safe and help us prevent unnecessary fires!

August was one for the books for the Quitman Fire Department! Our volunteers answered 73 total calls for service, making August our busiest month since September 2011 which was 65 calls for that month.

With the extremely dry conditions we’ve been experiencing, our grass-fire calls have kept us especially busy. We want to thank every member of our department who drops what they’re doing, gets up in the middle of the night, and answers the call.

Most importantly, THANK YOU to our community for your continued support! ❤️🧑‍🚒

Our department has received several grass fire calls recently throughout the area from the Quitman city limits out toward CR 1416 off FM 2966.

With how hot and extremely dry conditions are right now, grass, brush, and vegetation can ignite quickly and fires can spread rapidly — especially with even a little wind. 🌾🔥

We ask everyone to please use EXTREME CAUTION with anything that could create a spark or flame. Be especially careful with outdoor burning, welding, equipment, vehicles parked in dry grass, and anything involving fire.

🚒 One small spark can turn into a large grass fire in minutes.

Please help us prevent fires before they start. If you see a fire, call 911 and give your location as accurately as possible.

🔥 Grass Fire Training 🔥

With the hot, dry conditions we’ve been experiencing, it’s prime time for grass fires. Our volunteer firefighters recently spent time training on grass fire operations, including fire behavior, hose line deployment, containment, and working safely around fast-moving fire.

Dry grass, low humidity, high temperatures, and wind can cause a small fire to spread quickly and become difficult to control. A fire that starts from a mower, vehicle, equipment, debris burn, or even a small spark can turn into a serious wildfire in a matter of minutes.

🚒 Training today helps us be ready when the call comes tomorrow.

Please help us prevent grass fires:
• Avoid burning on windy or extremely dry days
• Keep trailer chains and equipment from dragging
• Be careful with ci******es and outdoor equipment
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Make sure burn piles and campfires are completely out

We appreciate our volunteers for putting in the time and training to protect our community. Stay safe, stay alert, and help us prevent wildfires! 🔥🚒

Tornado warnings sirens tested all good

August is the normal peak month for volume of wildfire occurrence due to seasonal hot and dry conditions. Climate Prediction Center Monthly outlooks for August indicate the state will likely experience above normal temperatures and dry conditions. These conditions will continue to decrease live and dead fuel moisture which will increase fire activity potential.

If you don't absolutely need to burn outside, please don't. Wait until we get some rain to reduce the risk. We really appreciate it!
