Today we recognized 4 fantastic students of QISD!

September students of the month:
Lutske Bouma and Connor Nixon

October students of the month:
Bailey Hornaday and Cannin Wedeking

It was so wonderful to have them and our amazing QISD administrators Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Wedeking bring them to our club.

These young adults are amazing and we cannot wait to see them continue to grow into the next chapter of their lives.

Thursday we had an amazing presentation by Program Administrator LCPAA Matt Patton with Children’s Village.

He discussed fostering and what they are doing to help change the lives of children needing care because of choices they didn’t make

Temp high 80/low 90s but high humidity upper 50s....which made it hot

We have an excellent group of volunteers!

What is not pictured is QISD Facilities team that helps setup at 8am the tables, distribution pallets/boxes, canopies as well as "de stacking the pallets to single tiers (for safety) AND picks up the tables, pallets/boxes as well as trash at 1pm. In fact, most volunteers never see the Facilities team in the morning or at 1pm.

1150 lbs of backpack food was picked up at ETFB headquarters and dropped off at FUMC Quitman. Donations from FUMC Quitman, Quitman Rotary, WCEC grants and a few others along with donations from individuals in the Quitman area pay for all the food, milk and juice.

Over the coming weeks, every Thursday 4 meals are packed for students to take home over the weekend during the school year. Meals are handed out by the elementary school each Friday as the students go home.

This year, the number of students has ballooned up to 100 per week. The last 2-3 years we had decreased to 60-65 students.

Last Thursday, we honored Ra-Lyn Baker who literally hit the ground running with our club! She not only jumped straight into the deep end of the “service above self pool”, but she recently moved to Quitman and hasn’t slowed down since.

Through her dedicated service in a short amount of time, she earned her first Paul Harris Fellow pin.

The Paul Harris Fellow Award is one of Rotary’s most respected recognitions. It honors a person who has contributed either funds to The Rotary Foundation or service hours acknowledging meaningful service and commitment to Rotary’s mission.

Thank you Ra-Lyn for the impact you have made to Rotary our community! We are so proud to have you!

Today our presentation was Crystal Lynn, RN Program Director with Senior Life Solutions with UT Health Quitman. She discussed the importance of mental wellness in regards to our seasoned citizens.

It was a wonderful program and several walked away with the knowledge that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Speak up if your struggling and if your not struggling at the moment, speak out against the stigma.

Thank you Crystal Lynn, we look forward to working with you in the future!

This weeks presentation will be Crystal Lynn to tell us about UT Healths newest program, Senior Life Solutions.

If you or someone you know are around 65 or older, and struggling with grief, life changes, anxiety or depression we encourage you to come to hear this presentation Thursday at 12!

You do not have to be a member to join us for lunch and we meet at the Red Dome Smokehouse in Quitman!

We are excited to have this program available and look forward to hearing more about it.

It’s not a matter of “if” you will need this for yourself or a loved one, but a matter of when.

Quitman (and our neighboring clubs) at it again this month in leading the charge of feeding families with East Texas Food Bank. Quitman and Mineola Rotary clubs could not pull this off month after month without our awesome volunteers! THANK YOU for helping us in our efforts of feeding families.

From Area Governor and Past President Bill Martin:

ETFB delivered 14,175 lbs of potatoes, carrots, watermelons and cabbage that was distributed to 314 families and 2 local Food Pantries located in Mineola and Winnsboro. Each pantry received ~350 lbs of potatoes and carrots.
Temperatures in the mid 80-90s by the time we ended with a light but intermittent breeze.

Rotarian Dick Robert’s sharing eclipse glasses with restaurant staff at Parador de Lerma, Lerma, Spain.

The eclipse happened August 12,2026 shortly before sunset!
