Today our presentation was by former Quitman alumni and past Rotary Student of the Month….. David Denny, PhD.

Dr. Denny’s expertise is in neuropsychology who brought a wealth of knowledge about brain function. He answered a lot of questions and we appreciate all of his efforts to keep our brains in top shape!

Yesterday countless needs were met! Serving the needs of our community is the core value of Rotary. This is just ONE of our need based projects and how it looks locally:

14817 lbs of food served 322 families, but we didn’t stop there! We were able to donate food to the following pantries:

Estimated 1000lbs to Rosehill Pantry
300 lbs to Winnsboro

Yesterdays food distribution at Mineola ISD! Rumor has it over 400 families were fed.

The team even showed up to help. We love having our youth help with events and programs like these. We are raising those who will replace us one day, so it is important to see they in

If you would like to participate in the next food distribution, check out this link https://portal.clubrunner.ca/3623/Event/etfb--quot-drop-quot--distribution--quitman-bud-moody-4

Yesterday’s program was brought to us by Kim Morris, the Chief Impact Officer with East Texas Food Bank.

She stated that our clubs (Quitman and Rotary Club of Mineola, Texasclubs) are the only Rotary club to take on 100% of food distribution of this scale that she is aware of. On average, 350 families are fed at each location.

East Texas Food bank drops on average 14,000 lbs of food, while volunteers that are coordinated by Quitman, Mineola and Big Sandy clubs set up, pack, distribute, and break down. No food is unused. Left overs go to other pantries and inedible food is distributed to local farms for animal consumption (produce).

We take food insecurity seriously, and we are blessed to serve our community in such impactful ways.

If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, see the schedule below for dates, times and locations.

The pit masters!!!

Last night, our club had the extreme privilege of cooking the yearly hot dogs for the 2026 Child Abuse Awareness - Candlelight of Hope which were provided by the Quitman Pilot Club.

It is hosted yearly by the Wood County Child Welfare Board, Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, East Texas Crisis Center, 4Families4Kids, CASA, and Family and Protective Services.

We always love cooking the hotdogs because we want to ensure no child or family is left hungry, or in need of support provided by these offices that are imperative in supporting those in need.
