The Rhode Island Departments of Environmental Management and Health have issued a cyanobacteria advisory for Cunliff Lake in Roger Williams Park. Please avoid all contact with the water until the advisory is lifted. We monitor the Roger Williams Park Ponds, along with Tongue, Spectacle, Mashapaug, and Fenner ponds, twice each week. Join our friends at Notable Works for an inspiring afternoon celebrating art, poetry, music, and environmental stewardship! 🌎🎶

On Saturday, June 27, the “Building Innovative Bridges for Tomorrow” book release event will feature poetry readings, original music, a presentation on the Stormwater Innovation Center's work, and the release of Voices of the Earth: The Future of Our Planet IV.

The Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) interns from the Stormwater Center and The Nature Conservancy are working together to collect data across Roger Williams Park and the wider watershed (Mashapaug, Fenner, Deep Spring, and Tounge ponds).

Lily is an environmental engineering student entering her junior year at Brown and is part of this years inaugural Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) Summer Internship cohort! 💧

Her background includes PFAS detection and remediation research in the Pennell Lab as well as introductory water quality projects within her coursework. She is originally from rural central Maine and has grown up with a strong love for the outdoors. Outside of her passion for environmental work, Lily enjoys exploring her musical interests and is the president of the Chattertocks, Brown’s longest-running a ca****la group!

She is delighted to be joining the SIC team this summer to support various project efforts, including cyanobacteria monitoring, green infrastructure analysis, and community outreach.

Don’t forget to grab a spot for our cleanup on June 13 from 11:00 to 12:45 pm at JT Owens park.

Help clean up litter while spending time with fellow community members. After the cleanup, enjoy refreshments and paint your own plant pot to take home to help start your own journey as an environmental steward. Native seed packets will be available for all participants- a great opportunity to support local pollinators and wildlife right in your own yard!

After 3 years we are excited to announce that the Stormwater Zoo Masterplan has been finalized, developed in collaboration with the Roger Williams Park Zoo, the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, Horsley Witten Group, the University of Rhode Island, the City of Providence, and the Providence Parks Department!

This comprehensive plan will serve as a roadmap for the Zoo, SIC, and project partners to guide future stormwater planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring efforts that will improve water quality in the Zoo Pond and the Roger Williams Park pond system.
