Our mission is to sustain and enhance Roger Williams Park as a vibrant public space for all.

Roger Williams Park was created in 1871 after Betsey Williams bequeathed 102 acres of farmland and woodland to the city of Providence to be used for a public purpose. A portion of the gift included land that was originally purchased from the Narragansetts by her great, great, great, grandfather, Rhode Island Founder Roger Williams. Horace Cleveland, a leader in the Urban Parks Movement, created the design for Roger Williams Park. It was intended to serve as an escape for those working in highly industrialized Providence in the late nineteenth century. Twenty years after Betsey's bequest, the Park quadrupled in size and daily attendance had grown to 15,000 visitors. Roger Williams Park still serves as "the people's pleasure ground" that Cleveland intended. More than 1.5 million visitors from around the state - and beyond!- visit the park each year to attend festivals at the Temple to Music, events at the Casino, the Botanical Center, Museum of Natural History, tennis courts, ball fields... and to enjoy the same scenery and activities as past generations.

Frights are in the forecast this weekend! Add these chilling events at the park to your Halloween plans:

🍬Bring the family to the Halloween Bash tomorrow (Friday), 4-6 PM, and go trick-or-treating at doors set up at the Gateway Center and Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, with shuttle service going between both. Look for the RWPC door, and stick around for crafts and more!

🔮 For the 21+ crowd, reserve your tickets ASAP for Night at the Museum of Natural History tomorrow at 7 PM! A spooky scavenger hunt, spirited costume contest, creepy cocktails, and more are planned!

🍁 Take a ride around Polo Lake aboard an Illuminated Swan Paddleboat! Tickets are at the dock, 6-11 PM, nightly through November 1.

🎃 There's still time to see the pun-ny pumpkins at the zoo! Don't miss out on this year's Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, nightly through November 1 (tickets online).

This Friday will be SPOOK-tacular! Bring the family to Roger Williams Park for Halloween fun at both the Gateway Center and Museum of Natural History and Planetarium! The RWP Gateway Center Anniversary Halloween is an extension of Providence's Wicked Walk, featuring trick-or-treating, family-friendly activities, costumes, and more.

The Conservancy is excited to be hosting a special Halloween Arts & Crafts Table at the Gateway Center where kids can get creative and make something fun to take home! Free children's books are available on a first-come, first-served basis, too. Watch for the RWPC trick-or-treating door, too!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for a screening of No Country for Mothers, a documentary film by Reshma Saujani of Moms First, at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center!

We were joined by Denise Meza-Mathews from Liv Uni, Paige Parks from Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, and Clarissa Hernandez from Collective Action For Education, who answered questions and talked about the work they do for moms and families in Rhode Island. We hope folks left feeling inspired!

We're so excited to welcome Julie Gearan back for another Slow Looking in Color and Line workshop at Roger Williams Park! This time, we're gathering at the Rose Garden (near the Elmwood Ave. entrance, and across the street from the Betsey Williams Cottage) on Sunday, October 18, 12-2 PM.

Just bring yourself, your creative spirit, and a chair (if you'd like) to this free drawing workshop. All experience levels welcome, and supplies are provided!

Whether you're a mom, or appreciate a mom in your life, we want to see you at a film screening of No Country for Mothers on October 22 at 6 PM!

Roger Williams Park Conservancy is hosting a screening of this impactful documentary created by Moms First about what motherhood looks like in America today, at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center.

Joining us for the screening and a Q&A panel after the film are representatives from local organizations Collective Action For Education, Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, and United Way of Rhode Island. This open dialogue and opportunity for resource-sharing is designed to embody the film's premise: that motherhood in America is not a private struggle but a collective one.

It was a beautiful day to make art in the park last Wednesday! Artist Julie Gearan challenged us to notice our surroundings and think about color during this meditative and creative session. By the end, even the most hesitant of beginner artists didn't want to put down their colored pencils!

Plus, the backdrop of the Temple to Music and pops of fall foliage served as a wonderful muse! 😍🍁

Calling all beginning and aspiring photographers: join us for a fun and informative fall foliage mobile photography workshop, where Roger Williams Park will be your subject!

Local photographer and RWPC Program Manager José Ramirez will offer his expertise and instruction before encouraging participants to explore and apply newly learned techniques to capture the beauty of the Park during the fall season! All you need is the camera on your phone.
