Roger Williams Park Conservancy

Roger Williams Park Conservancy Our mission is to sustain and enhance Roger Williams Park as a vibrant public space for all.

Roger Williams Park was created in 1871 after Betsey Williams bequeathed 102 acres of farmland and woodland to the city of Providence to be used for a public purpose. A portion of the gift included land that was originally purchased from the Narragansetts by her great, great, great, grandfather, Rhode Island Founder Roger Williams. Horace Cleveland, a leader in the Urban Parks Movement, created th

e design for Roger Williams Park. It was intended to serve as an escape for those working in highly industrialized Providence in the late nineteenth century. Twenty years after Betsey's bequest, the Park quadrupled in size and daily attendance had grown to 15,000 visitors. Roger Williams Park still serves as "the people's pleasure ground" that Cleveland intended. More than 1.5 million visitors from around the state - and beyond!- visit the park each year to attend festivals at the Temple to Music, events at the Casino, the Botanical Center, Museum of Natural History, tennis courts, ball fields... and to enjoy the same scenery and activities as past generations.

Warm up your singing voice because this Friday's Groovin' Summer Movies screening is interactive thanks to karaoke at Carousel Village during Food Truck Friday! Belt it out with Just for Fun Karaoke, and grab a bite from your choice of amazing food trucks, before settling on the Boathouse Lawn to watch Hairspray (2007 version).

Food Truck Friday kicks off at 5 PM this Friday, June 5, and the film starts at dusk, so make an evening of it!

Special thanks to Providence Children's Film Festival for making Movies in the Park possible, with support from Providence Tourism Council, and to PVD Food Truck Events and Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village for hosting Food Truck Friday at Carousel Village!

It was a beautiful day at the RWP Boathouse Cafe on Thursday! 🌞

Thank you to all of our donors and Roger Williams Park Conservancy supporters who came out for our Donor Appreciation Party! It was a wonderful chance to meet and mingle with new supporters and long-time park-lovers alike – and to take a walk to visit our new Conversation Nooks. Thanks to funding from AARP Rhode Island, these groups of 2-3 Adirondack chairs placed around the park encourage connection in the outdoors. Stop by the park's new best seats in the house next time you're visiting!

And the Boathouse Cafe has officially reopened for the season! They're open daily (weather-permitting), serving up gourmet wood grilled pizzas, flatbread sandwiches, and salads, along with beer, wine, and more. 🍻

ICYMI: we were on Studio 10 WJAR talking about Rosé in the Roses and our free Movies in the Park: Groovin' Summer Movies! RWPC Programs Coordinator José Ramirez and Amy Rosa were on the show to promote our biggest fundraiser event – ticket sales are still open but close next week! Everyone who attends Rosé in the Roses at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center is directly supporting the free programming we host all year-round, including the Movies in the Park and so much more!

We hope to see you there! 🌹🥁
