The Velvet Season at Sachuest Point. Early summer brings a quiet kind of grace to Rhode Island’s coast — and this moment captures it perfectly. A young buck, antlers still in velvet, pauses in the golden light at Sachuest Point NWR. The calm sea beyond and the soft greens of June frame his watchful presence — a reminder that nature’s rhythm is steady, serene, and endlessly captivating.

He's back! The same Yellow Warbler returned to the Block Island banding station for the seventh time! First banded by Kim Gaffett in May 2019, it returns every year from as far away as Peru to nest at Clay Head at the north end of the island. Love him!
