SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE!

The Oregon Health Care Interpreters Association (OHCIA) and Trillium Community Health Plan (Trillium) are launching a 3-year project to train and credential new Health Care Interpreters (HCIs). This program will provide much-needed guidance and training to non-credentialed HCIs and aspiring interpreters.

The ultimate goals are to increase the number of credentialed interpreters in Oregon, prevent the loss of HCIs already on the state registry, and improve the safety and quality of health care for our limited English proficient (LEP) patients.

PLAN OF ACTION:

To address the barriers and challenges to HCI credentialing in Oregon, OHCIA developed a case management model to identify, track, mentor, and support non-credentialed HCIs and individuals who meet the state requirements and wish to become credentialed. This program will also assist credentialed HCIs who need to complete the 24 continuing education units to re-credential with the state.

PROJECT COMPONENTS:

Full tuition scholarship for the 60-hour online training for individuals who are committed to becoming a qualified or certified health care interpreter in Oregon.

Full tuition scholarships for qualified or certified health care interpreters whose names are on the state registry and who are required to take the 24 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to renew their credentials.

Full payment for language proficiency testing or translation of diplomas to meet Oregon State Authority language requirements.
