Councilors have spent the last month reviewing the Mayor’s Proposed Budget line by line and listening to constituents about which programs, services, city jobs, and infrastructure they most want to protect, and where they would be willing to accept cuts.

Now councilors are proposing amendments based on what they’ve heard, but there is still time to add your voice if you have not already.

(1) Review Councilors’ amendments and the Mayor’s Proposed Budget through the links in our LinkTree (https://linktr.ee/seuplift)

(2) Visit portland.gov/council/agenda to submit written testimony or sign up to give verbal testimony at the Monday, May 18 Budget Committee meeting, scheduled from 9:30 to 11:00 am.

(3) Watch Council’s final budget deliberations on Tuesday and Wednesday. These meetings will not include time for public testimony, so it is important to get your comments on the record by the end of the day Monday to inform these discussions.

Learn more + share your thoughts on the Mayor’s proposed budget (link below) at this virtual event co-hosted by Southeast Uplift (District 3 neighborhood coalition) and District 3 Councilors Tiffany Koyama Lane, Angelita Morillo, and Steve Novick.

City of Portland needs to close a $160M gap for the new fiscal year starting in July, and there’s no way around making painful budget cuts. Your Councilors need to know what you’d be willing to cut, as well as what you feel must be preserved.

We will take two minutes of testimony from as many attendees as we’re able to fit into this 90-minute program.

Whether you live on a residential block, in an apartment building, or a larger community, you’ll leave with concrete steps to map your neighbors, establish communication channels, and create the groundwork for coordinated action when it matters most.

No prior organizing experience required, just a willingness to knock on a few doors. Participants will leave with a printable toolkit to help you get started!
