Join us this Wednesday, October 14th for our next board meeting. We will be discussing signing onto a letter (https://save.sesptsa.org/) from the SES PTSA and faculty in opposition to the proposal to change Sunnyside ES from a K-8 school with an environmental focus to a K-5 elementary-school without a particular focus, as part of the overall school closure plan (https://www.opb.org/article/2026/10/05/portland-public-schools-closures-rightsizing/) from Portland Public Schools. We will also be meeting representatives from the Peacock Lane Festival of Lights to discuss ways the SNA can be more involved this year and in the years to come.

As a board meeting, all votes will be limited to members of the Sunnyside NA board. However, time will be given for public comment and questions.

The meeting, which will be held in the upstairs conference room at Southeast Uplift (3534 SE Main St.) and online at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88016449899, will start at 7 p.m. and go until approximately 9:00 p.m.

Yard Tree Giveaway registration is open! They are giving away 4,500 trees for Portlanders to plant on their private property.

Every fall, Portland residents can receive up to three free trees to plant on their private property. This includes yards, places of worship, and businesses.

The goal is to grow a healthier, greener city—together. They offer large native evergreens, heat-tolerant trees for hotter summers, flowering trees, nut-bearing trees, and trees rich with autumn color!

Register now and pick up your tree and mulch at one of their six giveaway events this fall. Planting is available for people who need an accommodation.

D3 City Council Candidate Mixer

Come meet the candidates running for the three open District 3 seats on Portland City Council in the November 3 election.

Sat, Sept 26 | 1–4 PM | SE Uplift, 3534 SE Main St

We’re closing down the street and opening our Outdoor Plaza for a free, family-friendly mixer.

The candidate program begins at 2:30 PM, when each candidate will have an opportunity to make brief remarks, but most of the afternoon will follow an open format with plenty of time for one-on-one conversations.

Many candidates will have booths, alongside local nonprofits, agencies, and community organizations.

And the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association is getting ready to take another step as a community by introducing our first ever neighborhood wide yard sale Saturday the 26th from 9a to 3p!

Join Sustainable Southeast Community Coalition (S2C2) and community partners for a free, family-friendly International Day of Peace Block Party on Monday, September 21, 5–7:30 PM!

Where: SE 50th Ave between Madison & Hawthorne Blvd

Come celebrate peace, unity, and a more sustainable future with: Music, Tai Chi demonstration, art activities for kids (and kids at heart), and various community organizations.

At 7 PM, we’ll gather at the new peace pole for a final celebration and community photo.

Portland Public Schools is discussing closing up to 20 schools!

This impacts our entire community. PPS is hosting a number of events where people can learn more and give feedback to members of the Board.

You do not have to have a student currently enrolled at a PPS school to attend.

We encourage anyone who is interested in this issue to come to a meeting, learn more, and let your voice be heard.

Our Portland summer seems to be ending early, but we're still on track for a grand finale!

Belmont Street Fair is taking place this Saturday, the 19th!

What I love most about this little district that could is that it's a barmuda. In one block, everything you could want is around you. One evening, and you never want to leave.

This particular afternoon will be that same energy, multiplied several times over, and with a wholesome kids zone. Full of nonstop entertainment, the event will run from 10am to 5pm.

It's election season again! Here in Oregon that usually means learning about a bunch of different ballot initiatives. But, this year, we only have one and the SNA is here to help you learn about it so that you can cast an informed vote. This Wednesday, Sept. 9th we'll be discussing the Community Budgeting for All initiative, which will require the city to award 2% of the city's discretionary funds each year to projects proposed by and voted on by Portlanders. We here at the SNA have questions and want to learn more and we know you do too! We will have representatives from both the primary driver of the initiative, My 2 Cents PDX, and the opposition group Protect Our City Services.

We're excited to have this debate and would love for everyone to come out, learn and ask questions!
