The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association is hosting its first neighborhood-wide yard sale!

Timed for the end of Summer, step into the shedding season by clearing out unwanted items.

There will be a yard sale at Sunnyside Environmental School happening simultaneously, making this a massive shopping event for all Portland locals.

If you'd like to be featured on our yard sale map, visit the link in the flyer to register. We ask for a $25 donation where excess funds go toward our neighborhood association.

Everything is fair game: books, clothes, board games, bikes, toys, garden equipment, planting cuttings, and even furniture. If adult clothing doesn't sell by the end of the event, please consider donating it to our Sunnyside Shower Project PDX , where we provide showers to our at-risk neighbors.

Please be aware that you will now need to stop when traveling through here by vehicle, and thanks for your support for making our neighborhood a safe place to walk!

Movie in the park event this Saturday, August 22nd!

Cool Runnings is the true-ish story of the Jamaican bobsled team at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. A very sweet and funny movie starring John Candy as the coach.

See ya there!

The ribbon is cut, the doors are open, and books abound at the newly renovated Belmont library!

Did you know that Multnomah County has the third busiest library system in the country? With libraries like this one, four times larger than its predecessor, it's easy to see why!

08/10/2026

Join us this Wednesday, August 12th for our next board meeting. Usually, our board meetings are just about managing the business of the SNA as an organization, but we have a special treat this month! Representative of the Multnomah County Library system will be joining us for a special sneak peek of all that ht enew library will offer the community, days before the grand opening this weekend!

One other note: In the August issue of the Sunnyside News, we announced that we would also be discussing a proposed new apartment building at 4511 SE Hawthorne. The developer has tabled these plans for now, so we are cancelling this discussion until more news arises.

The meeting, which will be held in the upstairs conference room at Southeast Uplift (3534 SE Main St.) and online at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85776168096?pwd=dTU3V0wycWZxTmhSVGNjNjJxdjNldz09, will start at 7 p.m. and go until approximately 8:30 p.m.

The Presidents of the Sunnyside Environmental School PTSA are asking everyone to contact the School Board immediately in response to reports from teachers that PPS is mishandling layoffs.

Per the union contract, teacher layoffs must be done by seniority. SES teachers state the District is manipulating how seniority is calculated, is refusing to share its seniority list with school administrators, and is failing to account for the fact that focus option schools use a different curriculum than other PPS schools when filing vacancies created by seniority layoffs.

The email for the School Board is [email protected]. You do not need to be a parent to speak up!
