URR works directly with severely overcrowded Shelters and rescue groups in CA, AL. Kauai, and Mexico to transfer dogs in need of rescue help and those who need expanded adoption options out to the Dog loving Portland, OR, metro area. We also help place some local dogs in need of finding forever homes. Because our dogs are in foster homes we get to know the dogs personalities and needs. As we know

the dogs well and how they do in a home environment, we do a great job in matching families with the right dog, and the right family for the dog!

Syrus is now available for adoption!

Hello! I'm Syrus, and I want to be your best friend! I can be shy when I first meet you, but do know once I get to know you I'm your bestest friend. I would do great in a home with other playful dogs. I'm great at adapting my play style to big dogs and small pups too! I love kitties and gently play with them too if they are game. Otherwise I leave them alone. I'm housetrained and walk fabulously on a leash. I'm not dog reactive though my ears will perk up when I see another dog. Squirrels I get a wee bit excited over but nothing too crazy.

My description from the shelter said I'm a Shepard/Bordie Collie mix, but I bet I could have some Great Dane and/or Greyhound/Whippet in me as I've got the longest legs and svelte body! I also have the coolest stripe down my muzzle, which everyone comments on. It's pretty special.

I love walks, and adventures and I do great in the car too as I know it's an adventure time. I love, love, love snuggles and I give the best hugs! I would do best with humans who want an active, super smart and loyal dog. I don't run off, as I want to be where you are. I bet I'll need some time to adjust as I love my foster family right now, but I know when I go to my forever home, I'll come around quickly. I will need a family that understands that I will approach new people when I'm ready to receive pets and attention. That said, that is true for any dog, not just us shy pups.

I'd love some socialization and confidence building training with a certified force/fear free trainer, both for me and for you. Wanna meet me? I'm ready for walks, hikes, cuddles, hugs and love! I'm kinda fabulous and a beauty too!

Hi there! I’m Cyrus! I’m a 2 year old 52 pound Aussie Shepherd mix. Maybe I have some Dane or Greyhound in me too!

I’m a bit shy at first but I’m super smart and loyal. I love to go on walks and I’m house-trained too! They say I’m good with cats from the shelter but Underdogs is gonna check that out first too. I’ve bonded super fast with my foster and I’m quite the sweetheart. Adopt Joey 💕

Joey is 4.5 months old and a little over 10 lbs bundle of fabulous puppy! His sweet,
sensitive and silly personality has been really shining lately. Joey is the cuddliest little snuggle buddy, and will curl up in your arms and lay his head on your chest.

His favorite activities are chasing the hose water, chasing after a ball, and playing tug! When he’s not playing he loves cuddling and hanging out with you on the couch.

Joey’s a shy puppy, and the big world for a little guy has been a lot for him to take in. It takes him some time to warm up to new things and he is looking for a family that will help him gain confidence through positive small experiences and training support like puppy classes. Joey has attended some puppy social classes already and did very well.

A home with a confident dog would really help him come out his shell too.

If you’re looking for a sweet lil pup and have a patient kind heart towards shy dogs, Joey will sweep you off his feet!

UPDATE! ADOPTED!

Meet Bonnie ! She is a 6 year old, 42 pound Border Collie mix who is completely house trained. Bonnie is a gentle soul with a mellow temperament. She loves to go for walks and currently walks twice a day for a total of 2 to 3 hours everyday. Bonnie does well when left alone in the home, as she is a relaxed mellow girl when home.

She can be dog friendly if properly introduced slowly to other friendly dogs. No bum rushing rudeness please, I mean, who wants that! Bonnie is always eager to make new friends, and her intelligence shines through in her quick learning of new tricks.

Even though Bonnie is a Border Collie mix, she isn't anxious or hyper. She is very calm (fireworks don't phase her), loyal and intelligent. She doesn't bark often and never whines. She greets visitors nicely. She loves agility (she has been taking classes!) and learns obedience and tricks quickly. She also gets bored quickly so likes new challenges and places to walk and explore.
Surprisingly, she is not very interested in herding or fetching a ball.

Bonnie would prefer to be the only animal in her home, that said, she has lived with dogs and cats in the past. Bonnie can covet her food just a bit too much, so with other animals in the house she'd need a watchful eye and some positive training around food. More info about her food focus, which is a big deal for Bonnie. She will do almost anything for a treat, which helps with training. If you leave food where she can get it on the counter, she will take advantage of this. Working with her on knowing she always has enough will be important. Kongs and snuffle pads will help her with positive food focuses!

While on walks, she is eager to chase a squirrel while on lead, and the foster has been working on the "focus" technique while out walking with Bonnie to quell her enthusiasm for squirrels (and rabbits). Bonnie comes with a training session with one of our contracted fear free trainers, to get you on the right track with her. She also has pretty great recall off leash at about 80 percent of the time, but as mentioned, a squirrel may take top priority right now! She does great with recall at the beach.

This girl rides beautifully in the car and loves to go! She has become very sweet at the groomers for nail trims, the vet's and her favorite pet store. She is great about being groomed at home weekly. She can be a little anxious about new enclosed places. Lots of treats and patience help this.

She attends choir practice every week and is an honorary member of the choir! She greets everyone and then lays down under the piano to enjoy the music. Bonita's gentle demeanor makes her a great companion. She's also known for giving the best hugs, providing comfort and warmth in the most endearing way. Smart, sweet, and gentle, Bonnie is truly a gem.

Please consider Syrus. He’s such a kindhearted boy. Super handsome! Medium energy. He’s a bit shy but warms up quickly. He enjoyed off leash playgroups. He’s confused and sad because his family is no longer with him.

Syrus is owner surrendered 😞 Per the owner, Syrus is great with people, including kids. He's friendly with other dogs and cats ‼️He’s potty trained. Walks great on leash.

- Syrus can be fearful when being leashed but did allow it. He is nervous and needs time to warm up.

Good day, my name is Fizzy and I’m ready to be your best bud -WOOF!
I’m a one year old, 47 pound Picard Shepherd, and I'm the silliest guy you’ll ever meet!
I love to prance around with my toys, give humans hugs, and do zoomies around the yard like it’s my job. But when it’s time to leash me up for a walk, I’m a chill guy ready to go for a stroll. My foster parents say I’m their favorite doggo to walk (don't tell the other guys!) as I’m pretty much unbothered in the streets...except for that occasional squirrel sighting. And all the neighbors tell me I’m a handsome son of a gun.

I’m a really sweet guy that loves people. I love pets, cuddling, and will take all the affection you'll give. And I’m a very happy-go-lucky pup. But when it comes to my toys - sure, I’m happy to share my toys with humans, but I’m not as generous with my four legged friends…the toys are all mine!
So my ideal home would be a house full of humans and toys, but no other doggos. I’m happy to meet dogs on walks, but I won’t be inviting them back home to my toy kingdom!

If you want a loyal boy that will be your forever companion, I’m your guy. If you want a doggo that’s down for an adventure at any moment, I’m your guy. We can chill at home with my toys or head out to a hiking trail. I also love neighborhood runs! I’m pretty much down for whatever as long as I get to hang with my people 🙂

Update! ADOPTED!!!
Miss Fleur is a beautiful 2-year-old Cairn Terrier Mix who takes a little time to open-up, but once she trusts you, you’re in for life.

She is a sensitive soul looking for a patient human to show her how wonderful the world can be. Watching her take those first brave steps and wiggle her tail for you is the most rewarding feeling in the world. She loves sitting on the couch next to her people and getting soft pets. She will be your quiet shadow as you move throughout your day. She sits very still during bath time and walks fabulously on a leash. She is very treat motivated and a great eater.

Miss Fleur also comes with a solid record of zero potty accidents in her foster home. She sleeps through a long night and waits patiently for you to tell her it is time to start the day! She is able to run loose in the house while you’re away and will keep watch out your front window by sitting on whatever will get her the best view. She may be mistaken for a cat as sometimes she can be found standing in a windowsill or on a table if it affords her the best view while you are away from home but no worries she will keep your house safe until you return.

She's been attending training classes to get comfortable in settings outside the home and is doing great! We'd love for her to be able to continue classes for her and her new companion. Did we mention she loves to go for walks? It's her favorite past time!

Ideal Home: A quiet, low-traffic household (preferably adult-only or older kids) with someone who understands that good things take time. She would do well in a house or an apartment due to calm quiet nature. Having another confident dog to show her the ropes would be a huge plus but she would also be fine being the only dog. She is good with cats as she will completely ignore your feline companion. If you have a little extra patience to wait for her to open-up and a lot of love to give, Mrs. Fleur is your girl!

Meet Tilly! Saved from an overcrowded California shelter, transported to safety in Oregon, and ready to join your pack. Tilly is a 6 month, 25 pound girl who is the perfect mix of confident, cautious, and curious. The shelter had her listed as a "Basenji mix" and based on her size, coloring, and temperament, there might be some truth to it!

Tilly is a silly, social, happy gal who seems to be content in many situations. Playful dogs in the home? Great! She'll love it. Respectful kids at home? Yay!! More friends! Only have some boring adults who like to sit around and read? That's ok! Get Tilly her library card and she'll be happy to curl up next to you with a good book.

She's been learning her leash skills and enjoys walks around the neighborhood, taking in all the sights and sounds with curiosity and a little caution. She is a pro at potty training and hasn't had any issues in her foster home as long as she's given plenty of opportunities to be outside.

She's also learning to appreciate puppy naps in her crate and has relaxed with her kong with minimal protests for 3 hours during the day. She's willing to sleep in it all night but would prefer to be next to you in the bed. But get ready - when it's time to let her out, your house and yard become an obstacle course for Puppy Parkour! She tears through the space with zoomies and excitement in rejoining her friends.

Tilly is a sharp girl and doesn't miss much. She is at the perfect age for positive reinforcement training classes, and with her keen focus, agile body (thank you, Puppy Parkour), eagerness to please, and food motivation, we are sure she will be the top of her class.

She is so excited about life and doesn't want to miss ANYTHING, so don't be surprised if she tries to sneak out the front door to tag along with you! Her new family must be committed to creating a safe environment for Tilly to thrive. She is only a puppy and still has so much to learn, but based on what we've seen in her foster home, she is working hard on becoming the ultimate doggie best friend and all around goodest girl.

Her new family will have to agree to taking her to her spay appointment at a later date (cost covered by URR.) Pupdate: ADOPTED!!
Meet Yaz! This 6-month old, 25 pound sweetie is the perfect family dog! She absolutely loves attention and gets along with every human and doggo she meets. She is likely to follow you around the house and try to get as many pets as possible. Yaz seeks out other playful pups and is always down for a good game of chase. She has some dog siblings in her foster home and they zoomie around the yard together every day, so she would love to join a home with another playful dog. She’s also showing signs of some expert level fetch skills, so there may be some ball chasing in her future!

Yaz does great on a leash, loving her daily neighborhood walk around SE Portland. She is very curious and loves exploring the world around her. Yaz is nearly fully potty trained and has been learning some basic commands like “sit” and “stay.” She’s a receptive girlie and picks up things quickly, so she is bound to flourish with continued training.

This playful little toy fanatic is full of puppy energy and would love a home where she can get all the love, playtime, and adventures her heart could ask for. Underdogs cover spay & neuters of puppies when they reach the right age, are microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Yaz's adoption fee is $450.
