St. Rose School As a mission of St. Rose Parish, St. Rose School educates each student as a unique child of God to know and live the Catholic faith and to achieve excellence.

Catholic education for PreK-8. Call for a tour! For more than 100 years, children have come to the simple brick schoolhouse at NE Alameda Street and NE 53rd Avenue to learn and grow through education, service, community and prayer. Today, St. Rose School (formerly Archbishop Howard School) is a thriving community with active, engaged families and a focus on lifelong learning and strong character development.

Our first Virtue Assembly of the year was full of encouragement, celebration, and a little bit of music! Throughout the month, students who were caught practicing our school virtues received a leaf “ticket” to add to our Virtue Tree. At our monthly assembly, we celebrate those students and recognize one Virtue Award recipient from each grade, selected by their teacher.

We also introduced our virtue for the month ahead: Responsibility! Our 7th graders helped us kick things off with two original songs to get us thinking about what it means to be responsible. We’re so proud of all the ways our students are putting our virtues into action every day!

What a beautiful, sunny day to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi! Our school community gathered for a special Blessing of the Animals prayer service. Thank you to all the families and friends who brought their pets to receive a blessing. We loved seeing so many furry, feathered, and beloved friends!

Today, we welcomed Archbishop Sample and members of the Archdiocese of Portland as part of our school’s accreditation process. Archbishop Sample celebrated Mass with us, with our 5th grade Faith Leaders helping to lead the celebration. They did a wonderful job!

After Mass, our guests visited classrooms, spent time talking with students and teachers, and even joined us for lunch. We’re grateful for the opportunity to share a glimpse of what makes St. Rose such a special community: faith, learning, joy, and children who are known and loved.

Four-square, sunshine, and a little friendly competition! Our students had a great time getting in on a few rounds of four-square with Mrs. Penwell during recess. We love seeing our teachers jump into the fun right alongside our students!

Rugby has officially made its way to recess! Our middle school students have been getting in on the action outside, inspired by Miss Johnston and her love of rugby. She’s been sharing the sport with her students, and clearly, some of her fierce spirit is rubbing off on them. Swipe to see Miss Johnston in action!
