Coyotes are incredibly well camouflaged for brushy, scrubby habitats. Can you spot the one in this video? If you’re stumped, make sure you watch to the very end!

It is completely normal to see a coyote in the Portland area. They live here! While coyotes are most active at night, it is normal to see them during daylight—in fact, 54% of our reports happen during the day. When a coyote is minding its own business while out and about, there is no cause for concern. These two coyotes in particular were basking in the sunlight until they noticed humans, at which point they moved away—exactly what we want to see.

To coexist successfully with our resident coyotes
-Never feed coyotes and remove potential food sources.
-Protect pets. Keep pets indoors, on short leashes, and supervised.
-Scare off bold coyotes. Make noise until the coyote leaves the area.
-Share this message. This only works when the whole community works together to keep people, pets, and coyotes safe.

Coyote cuteness! A community member shared this video of coyote pups resting near Spring Garden Park earlier this year. Coyotes pup in spring and usually have one litter of about 4-7 little ones.
