Natalie Reed grew up on Vinalhaven and graduated from Maine College of Art with a degree in metalsmithing and Jewelry.

Susan Webster is a multimedia artist who lives in Deer Isle.

She integrates her activism into daily life by printing her DEFENDROE and AAA Abortion Access Advocate designs onto everything from t-shirts, sweatshirts, napkins and aprons, to formal gowns and suits, transforming functional textiles into symbols of solidarity. Susan has been partnering with SAFE Maine since 2023, organizing pop-up art exhibits and community
gatherings where she donates a portion of the sales to the organization.

She has taught at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, (ME), Penland School of Crafts (NC), Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CT), Studio Artworks Center (Jerusalem, Israel) among other institutions.

We are gutted by the news that another person was killed by ICE, this time in our home state of Maine. We send our deepest condolences to Johan Sebastian Guerrero’s wife, child, and loved ones.

All of us deserve a world where we can raise our kids without the fear of police violence, where all people are welcomed and valued. We are devastated that families are being torn apart by cruel and violent policies and agencies. One of SAFE Maine’s organizational values is respect for families and communities: we believe that the fundamental human right to build families in safe, sustainable communities is an essential component of bodily autonomy. The fight to end the violent policing of communities across our country is intertwined with the fight for reproductive freedom.

As a mutual aid organization, we want to lift up ways to directly support Guerrero’s family and communities across Maine who are most impacted by this violence. If you have the capacity to give, we encourage you to make a donation to the following (all links are in our statement in our bio):

-There are resources to help you manage an abortion or miscarriage at home

-We can help you get to and from an in-person appointment by connecting you with a compassionate volunteer driver or by sending gas money

- If you need to travel for care or if you need a safe place to recover, we can arrange a hotel stay
