Youth Media Makers check this out! Our Youth Media Collective is about to start up again and there is still time to join.

This opportunity is for teens ages 14-18 and runs on Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm to 7:30pm starting with an orientation on September 23rd, 2026 and ending with a screening and celebration in March 2027.

Through the Collective youth will explore the intersections of media arts and wellbeing while learning to produce their own content — adding their voice to the media landscape! Topics covered will include media literacy, youth mental health, cinematography, studio production, journalism and storytelling + more.

Participants will have the opportunity to train on and check out production equipment, talk with guest filmmakers and professionals, and tell their stories through video.

📢 CALLING ALL OPEN SIGNAL PRODUCERS📢

The Make-a-Thon is back and so is the Battle of the Band Members! Join us on Saturday, October 3rd for a day-long production race to the finish. Register for one of three production teams and film a music video with Capoeira São Salvador PDX in an all-out creative race to the finish. Work together to plan, film and edit one section of the video with support from Open Signal staff and access to our production equipment and spaces.

We provide the gear, location, and food — you bring your talent and creativity! We'll meet at Open Signal at 12:30pm for brunch and equipment pick-up, and filming will take place from 1pm to 7pm.

We’re excited to participate in Converge 45 by broadcasting Võ Võ / An Out Recordings new video work "Street Meetz" on our channels!

Vo presents Street Meetz, a new “vox populi” video project shaped by the spirit of public access television and cult documentaries like Heavy Metal Parking Lot (1986). Filmed through conversations with strangers in public spaces around Portland, the project demonstrates how even brief, unscripted exchanges can create a sense of connection and community.

Join us Saturday, July 25th at 6pm for a free public screening premiering original work from our Spring 2026 Production Cohort! Over six months, these talented creators brought their ideas from concept to completion with training, mentorship and access to Open Signal’s studios and equipment.

🎬 Got a story to tell? We want to help you bring it to the screen!

Applications are now open for Open Signal’s next Production Cohort, a six-month, hands-on filmmaking experience for beginner media makers and small creative teams. The cohort runs from August 20th to January 23rd, and applications are due July 21st at 5pm!

From idea to public premiere, you’ll receive:
+ Professional production training
+ Access to cameras, studios, laptops, lighting, and editing suites
+ Weekly work sessions and one-on-one support
+ A celebratory public screening of your work

This is a collaborative, supportive program designed for people who are ready to commit to growing their skills and completing a project alongside a community of fellow storytellers.

Coming up on Sunday, June 14th: Come be in community and hear from Black clinicians working in serious illness care at an in-person or virtual screening of the first episode of Fabric of our Journey.

Palliative care is about how we want to live our best lives in the setting of serious illness. Through storytelling and bearing witness, learn how this caregiving is something that Black people have known for time immemorial.

Join us for one of two screenings and Q + As, one at 4pm and another at 7pm. A performance by Sebe Kan West African dance company will following the 4pm screening. Complementary bites and non-alcoholic beverages provided.
