Planting season is here and we have some awesome events for you. Join us on 10/24 at Wapato Lake National Wildlife Refuge, one of our most scenic and special planting sites. One of the nation's newest refuges and a site of deep historical importance to the tribes of the Willamette Valley, this Wapato Lake's connected wetlands, floodplains, and waterways are of critical importance to the health of water, wildlife and people throughout the region.

Planting season tips off tomorrow at Jackson Bottom Wetlands in Hillsboro! Volunteers will add hundreds of native plants to this 635-acre wetland complex on the Tualatin River. Meanwhile in Tualatin, we'll be training a new cohort of crew leaders. It'll be a beautiful day of community climate action!

Our team is getting ready for an epic plant giveaway today in Beaverton. Find us at Southminster Presbyterian Church today, Saturday October 3. We’ll be starting at 10 AM and running until 2 PM, or until all the plants are gone. This giveaway exclusive to residents of Washington County.

Rain has arrived! But that doesn't mean autumn is here. You may even have been seeing some leaves change color to orange and red. Those red leaves could actually be a sign of heat stress after the hot, dry summer we've had. With climate change, even mature trees are showing signs of stress.

When the days get shorter, trees get their signals to start getting ready for dormancy, storing their sugars for winter and shutting down the green chlorophyll cells in their leaves. The days have started to get shorter, but it's not quite time for this process to begin.

Even with rain arriving, keep a feel for your soil moisture and keep up with your watering regime until the ground is thoroughly soaked through for the season.

Tree Care Summer continues at Friends of Trees! Huge thanks to consulting arborist and Friends of Trees star volunteer Ruth Williams for putting on "An Evening with an Arborist" alongside our Community Tree Care team at the Kennedy School. We had more than 30 dedicated pruning volunteers in attendance for the presentation—Stories Trees Tell Quietly—about how observations guide pruning decisions.

There's always room to keep growing in our tree learning journey, and we love empowering people to take tree care into their own hands!
