Are you part of the diaspora from communities we work with? Or do you know someone who is?

Green Empowerment partners with communities in Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Malaysian Borneo, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Uganda to build community-owned water and renewable energy infrastructure.

As we grow our Board, we're especially hoping to hear from people with roots in these countries, folks who carry that lived experience and cultural connection into how we govern and grow as an organization. We're also interested in hearing from people with hands-on experience working in international development in these regions.

If you or someone in your network has ties to any of these countries, experience in international development, or simply a passion for community-led development, we'd love for you to consider joining our Board. Your perspective would help make sure our work stays rooted in the people and places it's meant to serve.

-Regional Ecosystems: Moving beyond isolated projects to invest in long-term partnerships and coalitions that drive collective action.
-Core Lenses: Keeping gender equity and climate resiliency central to every infrastructure model we build.

Infrastructure is just the springboard. Local ownership and regional ecosystems are what ensure that water and energy access endure.

Many rural water systems fail not because the pipes break, but because the tariff underneath them does: set too low for maintenance or too high for communities to pay.

Since our last update from Cucho Yanaoco, Peru, the community has taken an important step toward long-term sustainability of their water system: setting a fair water tariff.

During a recent tariff-setting workshop, community members were able to map out their Plan Operativo Annual, or POA — the annual operating plan that spells out the real cost of running their system. From there, they did the math together to figure out exactly what tariff would need to be set to keep the system running for years to come.

Like anyone, people trust a tariff more when they can see how it was calculated.

This Tariff setting workshop is one of the key elements of Green Empowerment's micro-utility model. From Central America, to Africa, to SE Asia, we work with local partners to build tariff setting workshops into how they implement every project. Huge shout out to our partner Energía, Ambiente y Sostenibilidad leading this work in Cucho Yanaoco and throughout Peru.

Community-led stories are taking shape in Pokolon Paus.

"Energy gives the community room to move forward. But at the same time, the community still wants to protect the environment, rivers, land, and culture passed down through generations. Progress does not have to mean leaving tradition behind. Instead, technology can be used to support village life, as long as it is understood, managed, and led by the community itself."

During the second Community-Led Storytelling Workshop, participants transformed their lived experiences into storyboards and production plans, preparing to bring their own story to life through film.

This perspective in the quote above is exactly why we're taking this approach. The goal isn't simply to document a project. It's to create space for communities to tell the stories they believe are most important.

Filming is now underway, and we look forward to sharing more as this journey continues.
