Over the past couple of days, we've heard a great deal of feedback regarding the Board's decision not to publish the individual Journée evaluation results.
This wasn't a decision the Board made lightly. We spent considerable time discussing it and weighing the value of transparency against our responsibility to create an environment where people feel comfortable participating.
Those discussions were influenced by several factors. We heard from individuals who chose not to participate because they were concerned that their individual results could later be weaponized against them. We did not consider those concerns to be unfounded. In addition, the recent conduct we witnessed on social media reinforced those concerns. While respectful discussion and differing opinions are welcome, using information to launch personal attacks or publicly shame participants has no place in our community.
Our priority is to make these events welcoming and inclusive. We want people to feel comfortable bringing their dogs forward for evaluation without worrying that their individual results could later be used as a basis for personal attacks or public shaming. It was an important consideration in our original decision.
We've also heard from many members who believe publishing the results is important. We understand both perspectives, and it's clear this is an issue our membership cares deeply about.
Rather than relying solely on the discussion we've seen on social media, we'd like to hear from the broader membership.
Over the next few days, we'll be sending a poll to all WBA members by email asking whether individual Journée evaluation results should remain private or be published publicly. Once we've reviewed the results, the Board will revisit this decision with that feedback in mind.
We encourage our membership to take a few minutes to complete the poll. Whether you agreed with the original decision or not, we'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts. Our goal is to make a decision that reflects the values of our membership while continuing to promote a community where people feel welcome, respected, and confident participating in our events.
As always, members are welcome to reach out to the Board directly with questions, concerns, or feedback at [email protected]. We value hearing from our membership and appreciate everyone who takes the time to share their perspective.
