This Wednesday author/illustrator Lucky Platt Lucky Platt delivered a very special workshop on puppet-making at the TEIA Club Peaks Island. She led the group in the process of creating strange, familiar, and quirky puppet characters. At the end of the workshop, she gathered attendees together and showed them how to bring their puppets to life by giving them names and making them “breathe.” Watching people connect with their new puppet friends was an unforgettable delight. Thank you very much to Lucky and the TEIA!

Join Illustration Institute for this special workshop led by James Macdonald, a 2026 Maine Arts Commission Maine Artist Fellow, recognized for his artistic excellence across his overall career.

Marquetry is a very expressive form of surface embellishment - think illustrating with veneer wood. Jim says “I try to catch the mood of my marquetry design as well as the visual impact of the different woods used. I then make further design choices to strengthen this mood.”

James will provide a hands-on workshop for beginners and seasoned woodworkers alike, sharing examples of his work, demonstrating the basic techniques of marquetry, and provide attendees with a “speed” version of the craft using basic tools and tips that students can expand upon after the class.

Drawing skills are not necessary for this class; materials will be provided. Class is open to all ages 10 and up, and a materials fee of $25.00 is required. 🎸

Lucky Platt is back on Peaks Island! A delightful author/illustrator/mixed media artist, Lucky Lucky Platt will lead a workshop building mixed media puppets - fun in itself but a bonus for those who create stories as well. Illustrators often draw from the 3-D characters they create - now you will have one to inspire your next story!

What better way to send off our Illustration week 2026 than with two workshops led by illustrators Isabella Rotman and Scott Nash. Isabella Isabella Rotman, an Eisner and Ignatz-award-winning illustrator led participants in a wonderful zine-making workshop, complete with photocopier to print their own limited edition run. And our very own Scott Nash Scott Nash Illustration, author/illustrator of over 50 books, demonstrated how he sketches and draws scenes and stories - using Dinos as a subject to encourage big drawing. We had two packed workshops yesterday. Cartoonist and teacher Michael Connor Michael Connor gave an enthralling workshop on the art of brush-inking. In the afternoon, Patrick Corrigan, muralist and tiny-painting painter, led the group in painting tiny paintings! Thanks everyone for coming out!
