OLHSA Head Start in the News! 📣

OLHSA Head Start teacher, Deborah Lewis, was featured earlier this month in the Detroit Free Press. The statewide story explored proposed federal changes to Head Start and what they could mean for educators, children, and families. With the public comment period now closed, the proposed changes remain under federal review.

At OLHSA, our Head Start educators play a vital role in helping children build the skills and confidence they need to succeed, while connecting families with resources and support.

🎉We’re excited to share that OLHSA’s Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program received a $2,000 award from SCAN Oakland MI!✨

The award was presented on October 13, 2026, at The Avalon of Bloomfield Township. The event's host, Destiny Haas, Chair of SCAN Oakland, shared, “there's nothing better than coming together to give back to organizations doing incredible work for our local seniors.”

During the event, Lisa Grodsky, OLHSA’s Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program Supervisor, shared how the program supports grandparents and other relatives raising children, helping strengthen families across our community.

Thank you to SCAN Oakland for recognizing the importance of supporting grandparents raising grandchildren and the grand-families they care for!
