Humble Design National provides support services to our four locations in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, and San Diego who, in partnership with local agencies, provide furnishings and design services to those emerging from homelessness.

What if HOME is one of the reasons that families remained housed? A roof matters. A bed matters. Four walls matter.

But what happens when a house begins to feel like home? At Humble Design, we think about the details:
🧡 A child’s name, displayed proudly above their bed or desk.
🧡 Favorite colors and characters woven into their room.
🧡 Family photos placed on a dresser and gathered in the living room.
🧡 Curtains and shades that create privacy, comfort, and a sense of safety.

And sometimes, a little tray waiting on a parent’s bed. A teacup. A book. A handwritten note of encouragement. A small vase of flowers.

Small things that say: We live here.

When someone has experienced homelessness, creating a home is about more than furnishing a space. It’s about creating a sense of ownership, dignity, and belonging - the foundation that helps someone truly put down roots.

Home changes everything.

Today is World Homelessness Day. Today, we’re asking you to look at something differently.

A house can provide shelter. But a home can provide something more: a place to rest, gather, rebuild and begin again.

At Humble Design, we transform lives by furnishing homes for families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness. We create warm, welcoming environments that empower these families to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Securing permanent housing is a huge milestone. But what happens when a family walks through the front door and finds nothing inside?

A house can have four walls and a floor, a roof and a front door. But an empty house isn’t necessarily a home.

For a family transitioning out of homelessness, securing housing is a tremendous accomplishment. It is the beginning of a new chapter.

At Humble Design, we help design new beginnings by transforming empty houses into welcoming, functional homes with beds to sleep in, tables to gather around, kitchens to cook in and spaces that reflect the people living there.

Because there is a difference between housing and home.
