Overcoming Barriers!!

Some of our participants don’t have childcare, so they bring their kids to class instead of missing a session. That’s the kind of hunger we see every week at Perry Street Empowerment.

Adults 18+ are getting hands-on construction training right here in Pontiac: measuring, marking, cutting, and learning the trade from people who’ve built this city for decades. 🔨

Safety glasses on. Tools out. Futures being built.

We’re looking for volunteers, tradespeople, employers, and partners who want to invest in Pontiac’s next generation of skilled workers.

Great Company!!!

Our students are getting more than training they’re getting exposure, access, and real-world preparation.

Big thank you to Oakland County Commissioner Angela Powell for educating our students on county development projects and helping them understand the opportunities being created across Oakland County.

Thank you to Loren Guzik for breaking down commercial real estate and development in Pontiac and showing our students another side of how communities are built and how wealth can be created.

Our students also stepped up for speed interviews, practicing how to present themselves, communicate professionally, and prepare for real career opportunities.

And thank you to Lori Adams of Goodwill Detroit for leading an impactful Career Readiness session and helping our students prepare to walk into the workforce with confidence.

This is what workforce development should look like:
Skills. Exposure. Relationships. Opportunity.

We’re not just preparing people for jobs we’re helping them understand the industries, projects, and opportunities shaping the future of Pontiac.

12 weeks. 1 proclamation. And a whole class of new tradespeople. 🔨
Congratulations to our pre-apprenticeship graduates. 👏
They didn’t just show up — they earned it:
✅ OSHA 10
✅ Lead abatement certification
✅ Career readiness
✅ Real jobsite hours
And several are already placed. Big congrats to Ayden, hired by IBEW Local 58 — that’s a career with a pension behind it. 🔌
Two more wins:
🤝 We’ve partnered with Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit to open this program to more adults trying to break into the trades.
🏛️ And thank you State Rep. Brenda Carter for the proclamation. Recognition from the state tells these students their work counts.
This was HARD work. Our goal is 100% placement — and we need Pontiac to help us get there.
Contractors, developers, employers 👉 if you need certified, trained, ready-to-work people, DM us or hit the link in bio.
Hiring one graduate changes a life. Hiring five changes a neighborhood. 🏘️

🎉 Congratulations to Ayden Hill! 🎉

We’re proud to celebrate one of our Perry Street Empowerment 💪🏿 participants, Ayden Hill, on accepting a position with IBEW Local 58.

Aiden’s success represents what our program is all about: preparing local residents with the skills, work ethic, and opportunities to launch careers in the skilled trades.

At Perry Street Empowerment, we’re building a career pipeline from Pontiac residents to the construction industry through partnerships with multiple union apprenticeship programs, contractors, and employers. Every participant’s journey may look different, but the goal is the same creating pathways to family-sustaining careers.

Congratulations, Ayden. Thank you for trusting the process. We’re proud of you and look forward to watching your career grow.
