We’re excited to be featured in this Metro Mode article highlighting efforts to support people experiencing homelessness and their pets through this important community partnership!

We are grateful to work alongside amazing partners helping remove barriers and keep people and pets together.

Pet owners who stay at an Oakland County homeless shelter this winter will be able to temporarily house their pets at the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center, thanks to a new partnership between the Pontiac-based Alliance for Housing and the animal shelter.

A new website, Shelter Oakland, is making it easier for people in Oakland County to find emergency shelter by showing real-time bed availability and allowing one simple online application. Shelter providers say the tool makes coordination easier, improves communication, and has been updated quickly based on feedback. Instead of applying separately to each shelter, users now submit one application that gets routed to the best match, saving time for everyone involved. Since launching, it has received thousands of inquiries, helping connect households to shelter faster and making coordination easier for providers. While it doesn’t increase the number of beds available, it highlights community need and improves access to critical services.

Check out the article here:

Launched last summer, the Shelter Oakland website has already fielded 3,000 shelter inquiries from 700 families.
