🌱 We were honored to host the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank's Seeds of Impact event at our Outreach Center!

Guests had the opportunity to tour our Food Pantry, Free Store, Furniture Bank, and Donation Center and see how partnership helps us serve our community every day.

This is what makes Pittsburgh special. When organizations, donors, volunteers, and community partners coming together, we make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who supports both the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Light of Life. Your generosity helps put food on tables, meet critical needs, and bring hope to families across our region. ❤️

🛍️☀️ New season, new confidence.

Recently, the women and children in our program were blessed with a special summer shopping trip, giving moms the opportunity to pick out cooler clothing for themselves and their children.

Something as simple as shopping for summer clothes can feel out of reach. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, these moms were able to choose items that fit their needs, care for their children, and step into the season with dignity and style!

⚾ Creating memories that will last a lifetime at PNC Park!

Tonight, the women and children in our program had the opportunity to attend a Pittsburgh Pirates game and enjoy a much-deserved evening of fun, laughter, and connection.

Experiences like this aren’t always possible for the families we serve. Through our program, they get a chance to step away from daily challenges, make special memories together, and simply enjoy being together.

🖤💛 We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helps make experiences like these happen.

📢 Temporary Pause on Donations: June 8–15

Because of your incredible generosity, we've recently received an overwhelming number of donations—thank you!

To give our staff and volunteers time to thoughtfully sort, organize, and and prepare these items for distribution to neighbors in need, we're asking for a pause on donation drop-offs from Sunday, June 8 through Sunday, June 15.

✅ We will still be accepting:
• Furniture donations for Off the Floor
• Food donations for our Food Pantry

During this week, we kindly ask that you:
• Hold onto your items and bring them after June 15
• Consider donating to a nearby Goodwill, Salvation Army, or St. Vincent de Paul location.

Thank you for your generosity, your patience, and for helping us care for our neighbors with dignity and compassion.

Is homelessness in Pittsburgh getting better?

Yes... and no.

Yes, because this year more than 3,000 men, women, and children will walk through our doors and find food, shelter, support, and a path toward stability. Together, we're helping people take their next step forward.

But no, because far too many of our neighbors are still just one unexpected expense, missed paycheck, or crisis away from losing their housing.

That's why we opened our Outreach Center which allows us to provide immediate support before a temporary setback becomes homelessness.

Thank you for helping us keep our doors open 24/7, 365 days a year, so that whenever someone needs help, there's a place to turn. ❤️

How can faith-based organizations effectively engage their communities in meaningful ways?

That’s the question the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Neighborhood Collaborative staff came to explore during their retreat at Light of Life this week.

Together, we discussed the power of collaboration, Christ-centered service, and what it looks like to create lasting impact in our city.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share what we’ve learned and encouraged by a group so committed to putting theology into action. Thank you for the work you do to strengthen communities and serve your neighbors well.

David came to our shelter on his birthday after running out of options and sleeping in the airport. That day, our staff celebrated him with a birthday treat and helped him take the first steps toward something new. 🎂

Now, David has graduated from our Shelter + Program and is in our High-Commitment Shelter, working hard, saving money, and building a future filled with stability and hope. 🎓👏

Stories like David’s remind us that when someone is met with compassion and support, a new beginning is possible.
