This one-day event is designed to support survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual abuse by connecting them with resources and services to help them move forward.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Domestic violence and human trafficking are not the same—but their paths can intersect.

Abuse can involve more than physical violence. It can look like control over money, housing, transportation, identification, relationships, or access to help. And for some women, those vulnerabilities can be used by traffickers and exploiters to gain or maintain control.

That’s why conversations about human trafficking must also include conversations about domestic violence, coercion, and the barriers that can make leaving so difficult.

This month, we stand with survivors of domestic violence and the organizations working every day to provide safety, advocacy, and support.

💜 Everyone deserves to live free from violence, coercion, and exploitation.

Today, Her Safe Haven had the opportunity to participate in the BEAVER COUNTY ANTI HUMAN TRAFFICKING COALITION Annual Symposium. The keynote speaker was Alicia Kozak, who shared her powerful story of survival and her experience as the first known survivor of an internet-facilitated child abduction. She also spoke about internet safety and the importance of awareness and prevention.
We are grateful for opportunities like today to come together with professionals, advocates, survivors, and community members who share a commitment to combating human trafficking and supporting those impacted by exploitation.
Thank you to the Beaver County Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition for continuing to bring education, awareness, and important conversations to our community.

💚 WHAT RECOVERY CAN LOOK LIKE

Sometimes recovery looks like walking through the door.

Making the call for help is one step. Actually arriving can be another entirely.

For a woman coming to Her Safe Haven, admission day may mean walking into an unfamiliar home, meeting new people, adjusting to a new routine, and beginning treatment—all while carrying the experiences that brought her to us.

That first day isn't about having everything figured out.

It's about getting somewhere safe and beginning.

Our team is there to welcome her, help her get settled, understand her immediate needs, and start building a plan for the days ahead.

There will be assessments and paperwork. New routines and expectations. Introductions to staff and other residents. But there is also time to settle in, ask questions, eat a meal, unpack her things, and begin learning that she doesn't have to navigate every next step alone.

Recovery doesn't always begin with a breakthrough.

Sometimes, it begins with the courage to walk through the door. 💚

💚 WHAT RECOVERY CAN LOOK LIKE

Sometimes recovery starts with a phone call.

Before a woman ever walks through the doors of Her Safe Haven, there is a first step: reaching out for help.

That can mean picking up the phone and calling us herself. It can mean completing an application on our website. Or it can mean someone helping her make that first connection.

We know that reaching out isn’t always easy.

That’s why our phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When a woman calls seeking help, our team can talk with her, learn more about what she is experiencing, and complete an initial assessment right over the phone.

And when an application comes through our website, it doesn’t just sit in an inbox.

We call every applicant.

Sometimes that conversation leads to admission to Her Safe Haven. Sometimes we may not be the right fit for what she needs at that moment—and we can help identify other resources or options.

But either way, someone answers.

Because before treatment plans, case management, life skills, appointments, IDs, or planning what comes next, there has to be a first step.

Sometimes recovery starts with simply saying, “I need help.”

And we want to be there when she does. 💚

🎉 THREE YEARS OF HER SAFE HAVEN 💚

Three years ago, we opened our doors with a simple belief: every woman carrying the weight of exploitation, trauma, and addiction deserves a safe place to heal and become whole.

Since September 12, 2023, more than 50 women have walked through our doors — finding safety, trauma and mental health therapy, substance use counseling, peer support, case management, medical care coordination, spiritual support, and, most importantly, a community willing to walk alongside them.

But the true impact of these three years cannot be captured by numbers alone.

It is found in the woman who sleeps safely through the night.
The woman who begins to trust again.
The woman who celebrates another day in recovery.
The woman who discovers that her past does not have to determine her future.

Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. There is no single prescription for healing. Over these three years, we have seen again and again that it is within safe, consistent relationships that true healing and recovery can take root.

We have been blessed beyond measure by the Lord’s provision throughout this journey. We saw a need in our community — to meet survivors where they are and to be there during that critical window when the door to a different life opens.

We are deeply grateful for every staff member, volunteer, donor, Board member, church, community partner, and supporter who has helped make these three years possible.

And above all, we honor the courageous women who have trusted Her Safe Haven to be part of their journey. Your strength and resilience are at the heart of everything we do.

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing group from Allison Park Church who joined us for Serve Day 2026! 💜

This wonderful team poured so much love into our space at Her Safe Haven—tackling landscaping, painting, cleaning carpets, and helping make our home feel even more welcoming for the women we serve. 🌿🎨✨

They also provided a delicious lunch that brought volunteers, residents, and staff together around the table. It was such a special day of service, connection, and community.

We are incredibly grateful that you chose to share your time, talents, and hearts with Her Safe Haven. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us—we hope to see you back again soon! 💜

What appears to be an innocent online conversation can quickly become manipulation, blackmail, and exploitation.

Many young people believe they're talking to someone their own age. By the time they realize something is wrong, fear and shame can make it difficult to ask for help.

That's why awareness matters—for parents, grandparents, caregivers, and young people alike.

Trust isn’t built by words. It’s built through action—showing up when things are hard, and then doing it all over again.

Many of the survivors at Her Safe Haven first found safety by placing their trust in the teams at Safe House Project. Those teams build in minutes and days the trust we then have weeks and months to nurture—that’s no small feat.
