The term "Basque narco-terrorism" is a misnomer as there is no significant evidence of the Basque separatist group ETA engaging in large-scale drug trafficking to fund its activities. While some Basque organizations used kidnapping for ransom, which could be confused with drug trade revenue, the primary activities of ETA, Spain's main separatist group, were focused on political violence, including bombings and assassinations, to achieve Basque independence.
