Welcome to a week at Urban Impact!

Meet the missionaries, coaches, and leaders who are investing in the lives of hundreds of young people across the North Side one person, one family, one block at a time. This is where discipleship happens. A safe place for students to discover their giftings, grow in a relationship with Jesus, and learn who they are in Christ.

Though this is just a quick glimpse of our ministry, we have the privilege of reaching over 2,400 students in 60+ programs with the good news of the gospel. Our programs are more than just after-school activities; they are opportunities to invest in the lives God has called us to disciple. In everything we do, we give God the glory.

Juneteenth, short for June 19th, commemorates the arrival of federal troops in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to ensure the release of enslaved African Americans who had been declared free two years earlier under the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863.

As followers of Christ, we join in His mission of holistic freedom. We are especially reminded of the significance and expression of that mission during Juneteenth.

We observe this holiday as a historical reminder, but also as a present-day invitation to continue “to proclaim freedom for the captives” one person, one family, one block at a time.

What an amazing surprise for our Summer Day Camp students! Pro Bike+Run and Pitt unveiled brand-new bikes and helmets to campers, who spent the afternoon riding through Allegheny Park. Several students even learned to ride for the very first time. Best of all, these bikes will stay at Urban Impact, providing fun, growth, and new opportunities for many more students in the future. 💛🖤

God moved in mighty ways at ManUp Pittsburgh!

We welcomed over 1,000 men to take the next step in their faith and leadership, challenging one another to represent Christ in their everyday lives. Our keynote speaker, Pastor Ed Glover, reminded us that the same God who equipped David to defeat Goliath is the same God who is strengthening you to face your giants. We’re grateful for our breakout speakers who fired up every man to seek God’s calling and advance the gospel. Before the day was over, we witnessed 6 men dedicate their lives to Christ for the first time, and 94 men recommit their lives to Jesus.

Special thanks to all our faithful volunteers, Jason's Deli for a delicious breakfast and lunch, and Smokin' Steer BBQ for the VIP lunch. Your hard work and dedication created a fruitful experience for everyone who attended. We especially thank Victory Family Church for welcoming us into their space and their amazing team, who worked incredibly hard to help us make it all happen. This was not just another event; it was an encounter with God

Today is the first day of summer day camp! All our interns and missionaries just finished 2 weeks of ministry training to prepare for the summer and are ready to start building meaningful relationships with their campers.

For the next 7 weeks, 190 rising 1st to 6th-grade students will participate in math and literacy classes, Bible lessons, outdoor activities, praise and worship, and educational field trips. 19 middle schoolers will also participate in our Jr. Leadership program, where they will learn what it means to be a servant leader by serving and cleaning up after each meal, and reading to our first graders. This year, Education is also launching a new kindergarten readiness class alongside Early Impact staff who helped plan the curriculum. This class is designed to provide academic support to our preschool graduates to prepare them for the next grade level before the school year starts.

Join us in praying for our interns, missionaries, and staff as they share the Word of God and pour out the love of Jesus over every student.

This past weekend, we launched this video at ManUp Pittsburgh, reaching over 1,000 men, to highlight the impact a godly leader has on the lives of young students. We started ManUp to combat the effects of fatherlessness across the city by building up men in their faith to lead with integrity, strength, and love.

Our 7v7 Football team is just one of many programs within our ministry that have established a mission to disciple students to become faithful followers of Christ. Our students are constantly learning how to shine the light of Jesus in everything they do and everywhere they go. One of the 7v7 players shared, “Football is not the number one goal in my life”. His relationship with Jesus is now the focus. It all started with being poured into by coaches who consistently show up for him, demonstrate biblical manhood, and serve as godly father figures to their team every day.

1 God. 17 transformed hearts.

Baptism is a beautiful representation of the inward transformation that happens when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. By God’s saving grace, our old life is washed away, and we stand in a new life of abundance. Recently, we had the privilege of baptizing 17 Urban Impact students at Allison Park Church (North Side campus). It was a blessing to watch these young men outwardly express their commitment to follow Jesus. As we disciple our students and teach about baptism, we pray for these moments when they make this personal decision to deepen their faith.

This is discipleship at its core. Urban Missionaries, Grace and Audrey, are currently leading a group of their UI Dance girls through the Book of Luke. This weekly Bible study provides a beautiful space for each of the students to grow deeper in their understanding of scripture and sharpen one another in their faith outside of program.

One of the students said, “If I would’ve just read this by myself, they would’ve just been a bunch of words that I wouldn’t have understood or cared about. But now that we’re reading it together, I actually understand what’s going on.” We praise God for the ways He is opening doors for our students to draw closer to Him.
