On Saturday, we met at Rocky Bend Nature Preserve for our first Colors of the River of 2026. The sun was shining, the water was flowing, and we discussed some interesting things we noticed about Raccoon Creek. Find more free events at 3rwk.org/events 🖌️

This week's Swim Guide Results are in! Our rotating site this week was at Fall Run Park, a great place to hike alongside the creek. We also saw some intense flooding at a few of our sites. You can read more about that and get the results sent directly to you in our weekly Swim Guide Newsletter!

This summer, we will be hosting a Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps AmeriCorps, member-- Justin! Join us in welcoming Justin who will be serving as one of our PMSC Environmental Educators this summer!

My name is Justin and I am excited to join TRWK as an Environmental Educator! I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with an Environmental Studies degree last year and this fall I will be pursuing a Master's of City Planning at Georgia Tech. Some of my environmental interests include (but are not limited to) conservation, environmental justice, pollution reduction, and urban heat. In my free time, I love to play tennis, go on hikes, watch movies, go to concerts, and explore the great city of Pittsburgh!

On May 26th, 2022, a Norfolk Southern train collided with a truck near Harmar Township, causing the derailment of 17 train cars containing petroleum distillates and plastic pellets. Nine cars ended up in the Allegheny River tributary-- Guys Run. For the past 4 years, Three Rivers Waterkeeper has monitored the site's remediation. Now, on the anniversary of the derailment, we are advocating for continued remediation and monitoring of the site.

Last Thursday, we gathered at the Millvale Community Library to discuss E. Coli in Pittsburgh’s Rivers! We spent the evening discussing how E. coli affects our region’s waterways and delved into some of our data from the 2025 Swim Guide Season. It was great to connect with community members and share ways to get involved with our Swim Guide data!
