Another productive day at the Responsible Wood Products Mill!

New materials are making their way through the mill as we continue transforming urban wood into valuable local products. This latest batch includes eastern white pine sourced from the Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale, where we are providing kiln drying contract services to help complete the drying process for the material.

We're also processing cookie slabs and stump sections that are currently being disinfected in our kiln for future Urban Tree LLC operations. In addition, recent maple and chestnut logs yielded a combined total of approximately 25 slabs, creating even more opportunities for future projects and local wood products.

Every log, slab, and board that comes through our mill represents another step toward keeping valuable materials in circulation, reducing waste, and supporting responsible urban wood utilization. By recovering and processing local trees, we're helping create high-quality wood products with a story rooted in our community.

We're excited to keep growing our inventory, refining our processes, and finding new ways to put these resources to their highest and best use.

Stay tuned for more updates as these materials move through the mill and into the hands of makers, builders, and community partners.

Our crew is hard at work at Duquesne Greenway, improving trails and managing invasive plant species to help restore and protect this important community green space.

Beyond enhancing the natural environment, this project is creating vital connectivity within the neighborhood. By improving and maintaining these trail corridors, we're helping provide residents with a safe, enjoyable shortcut to a public bus stop and easier access across the community.

Through trail improvements and environmental stewardship, we're creating safer, more welcoming outdoor spaces while supporting healthier ecosystems for native plants and wildlife.

This work reflects our commitment to connecting people, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating thriving communities.

Our first batch of lumber is officially out of the kiln!

Our Mill Operations Manager, Luke, loaded up the finished lumber and delivered it to Construction Junction, where it is now available for purchase.

This first run included eastern white pine and eastern red cedar in 1 inch, 1 1/4 inch, and 1 1/2 inch thicknesses. We’re excited to begin with these species because they are ideal for fine tuning kiln operations while ensuring every step of the process is completed with care and precision.

Seeing this lumber move from the kiln to the marketplace marks a major milestone for our team as we continue expanding production capacity, strengthening our systems, and producing high quality local wood products.

Stop by Construction Junction to check it out and support locally processed lumber!
