Dear Neighbors,
The Dr. John P. Ruffing VMD Pet Food Pantry has been serving the region since October 2021. We've grown to a point where forming an Advisory Group feels like an important step to ensure we remain connected to the communities while navigating our continued growth.
We are looking for adult volunteers to serve in this role for a six month commitment . We will formally meet monthly using Zoom and informally tackle defined projects between meetings.
Right now it can feel like trying contain a cuddle of puppies or kittens or both! It is a good thing, but definitely requires some more wranglers.
You'd commit 60-90 minutes to the monthly zoom call, active participation addressing one of our goals, and your honest feedback.
It is clear we are filling a core need in our neighborhoods - the demand continues to increase. Systemic issues are the current challenge and an area where we think you can help steer us forward.
This is not just about raising funds and donations. It is about some institutional issues - dropoff spots, growth, storage, volunteers, etc. But we don't expect you to revolutionize the wheel in six months.
You do not have to be a dog/cat person, familiar with cat colonies - at its heart, this project is about our human neighbors, many of whom rely on their pets and others whose work taking care of colonies is vital to public health and community welfare.
Right now, it is most likely we will schedule meetings on Tuesdays between 4 and 9 depending on preference.
As you know, the pantry is part of a 501c3, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities.
This is an urgent request for people willing to roll up their sleeves and ensure we find viable, sustainable, and affordable solutions.
