Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA

Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA Epilepsy Association of Western & Central PA (EAWCP) provides information and supportive services. We now also offer virtual Project School Alert.

The Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA (EAWCP) is a private, non-profit service organization dedicated to providing information, education, advocacy, and support services for people living with epilepsy and their families, friends and colleagues. With offices in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, and additional staff in Erie the EAWCP offers its nationally recognized programs and services to r

esidents throughout western and central Pennsylvania. Over the past few months we have transformed our summer camp program, along with our support groups, workshops and education events, and all of them are now available online. This is a free seizure recognition and first aid training program for students, teachers and faculty. These new virtual services, along with our traditional support programs like the free CareShare respite program, emergency medication assistance, high school scholarships, the Oscar Project (providing service dogs) and help obtaining sleep/movement monitors, are all aimed at lessening the burden of living with seizures. The work of the EAWCP is supported through private donations, a variety of grants, and a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, as well as special fundraising events. With support from a volunteer Board of Directors and Professional Advisory Board that provides medical expertise, the EAWCP works to ensure an improved quality of life for those who face the challenges presented by epilepsy or seizure disorders.

The Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA invites adults living with epilepsy to join our virtual support group, a welcoming and understanding space to connect with others who share similar experience!

The group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6pm via Zoom. During these sessions, participants have the opportunity to meet other adults living with epilepsy, share personal experiences, and offer mutual encouragement. Group members often help one another troubleshoot challenges they’ve encountered and celebrate personal successes along the way.

The support group is peer-led by an adult who also lives with epilepsy, helping to create a space grounded in empathy, understanding, and shared experience.

Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with epilepsy for many years, you are welcome to join us! If you were a member of our support group last year, you will need to register again to receive your new 2026 link to join.

Seizures can happen anytime, anywhere. A Seizure Action Plan outlines seizure first aid, when to call 911, rescue medication instructions, and emergency contacts. Because communication may not be possible during a seizure, having this information ready helps others step in without hesitation.

➡️ Review your plan at seizureactionplans.org and share this post.

We want your message to be seen!

Epilepsy advocates will be traveling to Harrisburg to ask for continued funding of epilepsy services and support for other issues that impact our community. You can help us by adding your voice to our message!

How has epilepsy impacted you? What do you wish people knew about epilepsy?

Message us a short sentence or phrase and we will write it on a Post-It note sharing one way epilepsy has impacted you. You can talk about seizures or how epilepsy has affected your social life, school, employment, etc. You can share things that you wish people knew about epilepsy and seizures. Send us as many as you would like.

We greatly appreciate everyone who made this event successful.
