I’m trying so hard to hold onto hope, but I am losing my mind in here. I’ve been locked inside this shelter for over 2 whole months - 71 days, to be exact.

⏰ DEADLINE: OCTOBER 5

I came in back in July with my best friend, Creamsicle. We were found wandering together, relying on each other for everything. But on August 1st, Creamsicle was adopted. I watched my friend walk out those shelter doors to a brand new life, and I was left sitting behind the bars alone.

Watching my buddy leave while I stayed behind completely broke my heart, and being stuck in a cage for over two months ever since has fried my nervous system.

When you get me out to the play yard away from the echoing cages, my real soul shines right through. I am a fun, goofy, toy-loving boy! I go crazy for tennis balls and ropes, playing fetch with the biggest, happiest smile on my face and running zoomies in the grass. I know how to sit, I lean right into you for pets, and I take treats like a total gentleman. Out in the open air, I am a affectionate, sweet boy who just wants a human partner to love.

The hard part is that 71 days in a cage have turned me into a dog drowning in shelter stress. Behind bars, I bark out of sheer frustration and demand attention because I am so desperate to get out. I’m also touch-sensitive when I am over-aroused, flinching or backing away if hands move too fast around my head.

The public cannot adopt me directly right now. I need an approved New Hope rescue partner and an experienced Arizona foster home - a quiet place with someone who understands high-energy dogs, can give me structured leash guidance, and will let me decompress so I can finally leave my cage stress behind.

Sharing - 💔 SKYLER IS ALMOST 10 YEARS OLD. HE WAS FOUND WANDERING THE STREETS WITH ANOTHER DOG - AND NOW HE’S THE ONE STILL WAITING.

⏰ DEADLINE: OCTOBER 4

Skyler was found wandering near Osborn & 19th Ave with another dog, Scarlett. A finder saw them two days in a row before getting them to safety. Skyler was initially hesitant, but quickly warmed up, calmly got into the car and showed his sweet, mellow personality.

The finder said Skyler and Scarlett got along great. Even around their own dogs, Skyler remained calm… no barking or lunging through the glass, just lying nearby and resting.

Scarlett has since been adopted. Skyler is still here.

And his shelter notes have been consistently sweet. ❤️ He’s calm, affectionate, easy on leash, knows sit, stays close for pets and has repeatedly ignored dogs while walking past their kennels. He’s been described as friendly, mellow and easy to handle.

Unfortunately, Skyler is now struggling medically. He has stiff hips and would benefit from a senior veterinary workup, but what has put him on the urgent list is a persistent respiratory infection/kennel cough. After weeks of treatment, he is still coughing with nasal discharge, so his antibiotics have been extended.
