The School and all its teachers strive to create a nurturing environment that fosters a positive learning experience. Through a carefully graded curriculum, we accommodate a natural progression of skill development from the earliest levels of training to the elite performer. Our students receive intensive instruction in each of the classical disciplines: classical ballet technique, pointe work, partnering, men’s classes and variations. Summer Intensive Program students had the opportunity to go on several outings throughout the program. From the Philadelphia Zoo to New York City, we were thrilled to have so many fun experiences between training in the studios to explore and bond with fellow students.

It's almost that time again! School of Philadelphia Ballet's Nutcracker auditions for enrolled students is just under a few weeks away on Saturday, September 12 - save the date!

SPB students are an integral part of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker®, and getting to perform in Philadelphia Ballet's production is a highlight of every season✨️

Not enrolled yet? Students ages 7+ are welcome to join our Summer Maintenance classes (August 18-20 and 25-27) to be placed for the school year! Children's Program registration requires no audition or placement class and is open on our website now.

Thank you so much to PHL17 for featuring our Open Class program on the Positively Philly show last week!

Faculty member Jesse Sani and student Mary Anna joined hosts Abby and Rachel to talk about everything our Open Classes have to offer - professional ballet instruction in fun and supportive environment.

MEET OUR 2026/27 PBII DANCERS!

Philadelphia Ballet II (PBII), the pre-professional training company of Philadelphia Ballet, prepares the next generation of professional dancers through exceptional training, performance opportunities, and community engagement. As ambassadors for the organization, PBII dancers inspire thousands across the Greater Philadelphia region while developing the technique, artistry, and experience needed to thrive in the professional dance world.

We are excited to welcome three new PBII dancers this season: Orlando Barragan, Tatiana Chen, and Ben Holton, in addition to our returning dancers Molly Allen, Aiden Coulter, Olivia DiEmedio, Mariana Dominguez, Valeria Franco, Kaden Pfister, and Christopher Tsukada.

Our final in person audition for the 2025/26 year will be held this Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Philadelphia for dancers ages 7-21. Auditions are required for acceptance to School of Philadelphia Ballet’s Student and Pre-Professional Programs, including our NEW Contemporary Division.

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!

We are thrilled to announce that Russell Ducker will be joining School of Philadelphia Ballet as Resident Choreographer!

Russell Ducker began his training at the Royal Ballet Lower School, White Lodge and graduated from the Royal Ballet Upper School, Covent Garden in 2007. Prior to Philadelphia Ballet, Russell performed with Angel Corella’s Barcelona Ballet, where he danced various soloist and principal roles.

Russell joined Philadelphia Ballet as a member of the Corps de Ballet for the 2014/15 Season before being promoted to Demi Soloist in 2019. He has danced in a range of classical repertoire including; La Bayadere, Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet, Giselle, Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, Cinderella and The Nutcracker. Russell has originated roles in premieres by Juliano Nunes, Jorma Elo, Matthew Neenan and Nicolo Fonte.

Russell has choreographed three times for the company; This Divide (2018, music by Glenn Branca), Suspended in Time (2021, music by The Electric Light Orchestra) and Dance Card (2021, music by Grammy winner Jennifer Higdon). Ballets for Philadelphia Ballet II include; Where The Sidewalk Ends (2016, inspired by the poems of Shel Silverstein) and Little Voices (2017). You may have also seen his fantastic work, Peter & the Wolf, performed by SPB students throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region throughout the 2025/26 season!

That's a wrap on our 2026 Summer Intensive Program! We are so grateful to the students who came from across the country to train at SPB. Thank you to our outstanding faculty, led by School Director Davit Karapetyan, for their passion, dedication, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of artists.

Over the course of the program, these dancers challenged themselves, built lasting connections, and grew as artists. The dedication and passion they brought to the studio each day culminated in an inspiring final weekend of performances this past Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia Ballet's new Dance Innovation Lab.

Thank you again to everyone from our talented students and faculty to our incredible Resident Assistants and staff. You all made this experience possible!

We are looking to complete our team of talented accompanists for the 2026/27 school year!

SPB has two open positions - the School Accompanist and Piano Intern. The School Accompanist should have strong sight-reading and improvisation skills to support dancers throughout ballet classes. This role involves collaborating closely with instructors, adapting music on the spot, and creating an inspiring studio environment.

The Piano Intern role is designed for talented piano students or recent graduates, offering mentorship, hands-on experience accompanying ballet classes, and professional training in collaborative musicianship. Interns will build real-world skills while working alongside experienced faculty, with the opportunity to audition for a staff accompanist position after one semester.

Looking ahead to our 1-week summer programs, we are thrilled to have Philadelphia Ballet's artistic team in the studios with our upcoming Company Experience students!

Artistic Director Angel Corella, Rehearsal Director Charles Askegard, and Rehearsal Director Laura Bowman Goldstein will lead an immersive week of advanced ballet training including technique classes and enriching sessions dedicated to learning choreography from Don Quixote. The program culminates in an exciting public performance showcasing the students’ hard work and progress in our new Dance Innovation Lab.
