We celebrated the sweetest day of the year at the State Capitol giving out donuts to our local legislators!🍩We honored the tradition of Donut Lassies, who handed out donuts to soldiers on the front lines of World War I.

What began as a simple conversation with NFI Industries has grown into an essential partnership with The Salvation Army, Allentown Corps, helping deliver more food, household goods, and essential supplies to individuals and families throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Thanks to NFI’s support with transportation and storage logistics, the Corps has expanded assistance for local students, families seeking winter aid, and the 650+ individuals who rely on the Corps’ pantry services each month.

🍩 More than 100 years after The Salvation Army's Donut Lassies served soldiers during World War I, their legacy lives on. National Donut Day was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor their service. Today, we're still finding meaningful ways to connect with our communities.

Earlier this week, Salvation Army officers, staff, volunteers, and Shieldy - the Salvation Army mascot - gathered at the Pennsylvania State Capitol to celebrate National Donut Day by sharing complimentary coffee, donuts, and appreciation with legislators, staff, and visitors while highlighting the history behind the annual observance founded by The Salvation Army.

🍩 National is this Friday, June 5, and we're kicking off the celebration at the Pennsylvania Capitol in Harrisburg tomorrow!

The Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team, local officers, volunteers, and Divisional staff will be visiting legislators and Capitol staff to thank them for their service to the Commonwealth and for their partnership in helping support communities across Pennsylvania.

We will also be inviting them to enjoy complimentary donuts and coffee served from a Salvation Army EDS canteen parked outside the Capitol.

The tradition honors the Salvation Army "Donut Lassies," the volunteers who served donuts, essentials, and encouragement to soldiers on the front lines during World War I.
