You're probably already familiar with the iconic landmark at the entrance to Philadelphia's Chinatown, but did you know it's the first Chinese gate in the U.S. made entirely with traditional materials shipped from Asia?
Designed by Philadelphia architect Sabrina Soong, the Friendship Gate was erected in 1984 by master artisans from China. It was born out of a Sister City agreement between Philadelphia and Tianjin in China and aimed to attract more people to Philadelphia’s Chinatown.
Today, it stands as a symbol of heritage, community, and collaboration across cultures.
Project HOME is committed to sustaining that spirit of community through our work. Together, we can be the first major city to end chronic street homelessness. Your donation could help make it happen: https://projectho.me/4esNB4k
