The art brought us together. The community brought it to life. ✨

This past weekend, the community showed UP for Heart of Kensington Creates, a community-centered arts initiative celebrating neighborhood identity and shared Kensington pride through collective impact.

Neighbors explored newly installed artwork on trolley rides and walking tours through the neighborhood. We kept the celebration going with dancing, local bites, and creativity and fun for all ages. A day full of neighborhood pride, with art to enjoy long after the celebration.

Shout out to the artists whose creativity made every stop worth celebrating, our partners at Impact Services and the office of Council Member Quetcy Lozada for helping make it happen, and our neighbors for filling the day with so much life!

Next time you’re in Kensington, take a moment to look around. You may discover your new favorite piece of art right in the neighborhood. 💛

ABOUT MURAL ARTS MONTH:

Philadelphia is the Mural Capital of the World, shaped by more than four decades of artists and communities creating public art that tells the city’s stories. Mural Arts Month celebrates that extraordinary legacy, the people who continue to build it, and the belief that art belongs to everyone.

Throughout October, mural dedications, conversations, tours, and special events invite Philadelphians to take pride in—and look more closely at—the public art all around them.

✨ Artist Spotlight: Miranda Lopez of Hilo Fiber Bar

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating the artists, stories, and creative practices that reflect the many ways culture, creativity, and community come together.

We stopped by the studio to sit down with 2D textile artist Miranda Lopez and talk about heritage, storytelling, creating art that feels like home, and the importance of creating spaces where people feel safe to simply create.

This is just the beginning. 💛 Follow along as we continue spotlighting Hispanic artists and their stories throughout the month. ✨
